Sternchen3118 Sep 2020 22:52Hello everyone,
I’m not sure if this question belongs here or rather in the planning section.
We are about to start construction on our single-family house. We are building a ground floor plus a basement due to the sloping site, so the main bathroom and bedrooms will be in the basement. The main bathroom will be vented through a roof vent. On the ground floor, there is a guest toilet with a washbasin, which will be vented through a second roof vent.
No roof vent is planned for the kitchen sink/dishwasher drainage.
We are now wondering if this drainage also needs to be vented. Of course, these questions come up on the weekend when we can’t ask the construction company.
Could you please give us some feedback?
Thank you very much in advance.

It’s definitely better to “bleed” (vent) the system. However, there are also automatic air vents that can be installed inside a cavity wall system. A plumber can usually explain this. It is installed and does not have to vent through the roof!

Take a close look at the plans or ask the architect or the plumber.

I haven’t checked which floor the kitchen is on (and I’m a bit too lazy to look it up in the thread history right now). Basically, I don’t think such ventilation necessarily has to lead out through the roof; if it’s near an exterior wall (the sink is often close to a window), it can certainly go through the wall.

Take a close look at the plans or ask the architect or plumber. Hello, there is definitely a third separate wastewater pipe for the kitchen, serving the sink, dishwasher, and an additional water connection for the side-by-side refrigerator.
