ᐅ Small Kitchen with Great Potential Wanted

Hello everyone,

After many issues with kitchen studios (missed appointments, no further contact, outrageous prices, etc.), I have now decided to go with IKEA for my kitchen.

Today, a technician came with his advanced laser measuring device and measured the kitchen for me (unfortunately, it’s relatively small at about 4m² (43 sq ft) and quite awkwardly shaped).

I already have a rough sketch in mind of how I want it to look, but I still have to wait for the exact measurements for more detailed planning.

In short: an L-shaped layout with a compact oven and a 45cm (18 inch) dishwasher. This is where my actual questions begin.

My problem is that I don’t necessarily want to use IKEA appliances—I would prefer to go with Siemens or Miele, as I have relatively easy access to these brands through work. However, a friend who recently assembled an IKEA kitchen himself told me that there might be significant issues when installing dishwashers/ovens that are not IKEA brand.

The IKEA cabinets are apparently somewhat non-standard, and especially with his Siemens dishwasher, he ran into quite major problems fitting it, and now he can’t cover it with cabinet panels as intended.

Does anyone have experience with compact ovens (preferably a combination steam oven and regular oven) or 45cm (18 inch) dishwashers that fit well with IKEA cabinets? Ideally from Siemens or Bosch 🙂

Thanks in advance for your help!

Best regards,
I

Even if space is tight, everything can fit into a 40cm (16 inch) US-style cabinet. The drain pipe can be shortened if necessary, and the IKEA siphon has a flexible drain hose. A slim, agile installer is an advantage here.

The second appliance does not have a variable hinge. Since there is currently no 45cm (18 inch) wide dishwasher from BSH designed as a large-capacity model, an 80cm (31 inch) front panel does not fit ideally. The two machines can be installed by letting the front panel extend 5cm (2 inches) beyond the appliance door and installing the top of the dishwasher with a 5cm (2 inch) gap from the countertop. The section manager just explained this very well in the thread Bosch SMV dishwasher for Kevin0597.

I don’t have a great idea for the kitchen layout.

I hardly know the planner. Maybe they do not cut the finished panels to the exact length and only do this with the custom-made Personlig panels?

I took a closer look at the sink. It is 37 cm (15 inches) wide, and the cutout is supposed to be 1.6 cm (0.6 inches) less, so 35.8 cm (14 inches) wide. The cabinet has a clear internal width of 36.6 cm (14.4 inches). This leaves very little room. The mounting clips are about one centimeter (0.4 inches) wide, so they fall within the cabinet walls. For the countertop to sit properly, it must be routed out at the clip locations, and the sink has to be installed into the countertop before it is placed. This setup is bound to cause problems if the planner simply approves the installation as it is.

Okay, that sounds "interesting" – I had seen the numbers too but found them difficult to interpret.

The issue with the panel has now been "resolved," which apparently relates to the installation depth of the induction cooktop.

Now I should be able to make better use of the datasheets :-/ – In other words, I am also looking for induction cooktops that work with 28mm (1.1 inch) thick panels.

Oh dear, it’s not that simple after all 🙂

The problem is not the 28 mm (1.1 inches) thickness itself, but that you have an oven underneath and the clearance becomes too small. If you find a cooktop with a shallower installation depth, it might be so expensive that you would prefer to choose a 38 mm (1.5 inches) thick countertop instead.

However, first check the manufacturer’s specifications for the selected appliances to see if a 28 mm (1.1 inches) thick countertop might still be sufficient; the planner is assuming IKEA appliances.

Ah, OK, I’ll definitely have to take a closer look then 🙂

It’s not so simple after all :-/
