Hello everyone,
things are moving forward for us now. After visiting quite a few kitchen outlets in the past, we finally decided on IKEA. Mainly because it’s affordable – secondly, because the kitchen salespeople were almost driving me crazy in the end (a $1000 discount because the sun is shining…). IKEA doesn’t offer any consultation at all… not great either, but still better than that.
We were somewhat fixed on the layout because of the windows… now we are even more set because of the utility connections… The screed is already in place.
The cabinet fronts are Hyttan and Bodbyn – we will buy the appliances separately.
We thought the waste bin should be a pull-out unit under the sink.
A quick note about the tall cabinet row (since it’s not that visible) on the left side of the plan:
60cm (24 inches) cabinet, oven, 60cm (24 inches) cabinet, refrigerator, small freezer.

We would love to hear your opinion. Are there any things we absolutely should change? Since neither of us really has a sense for design, we would appreciate any tips or comments on that as well.
Thanks and best regards

Hello, I really like the kitchen. I love fitted kitchens because everything always looks so neat and organized!

I can definitely understand your decision to go with an IKEA kitchen. After visiting several kitchen showrooms, I personally ranked kitchen salespeople quite low in terms of social reputation. We also ended up at IKEA and have been using our kitchen for nearly 2 years now, and we are still happy with it. But one thing you definitely need to do is to get your design reviewed on-site by an IKEA kitchen consultant. They can offer valuable advice and help you avoid potential pitfalls (for example, I have doubts about whether the drawer under the cooktop works well, depending on the cooktop). You can save the design you create on the website at home and then open it together with the consultant at the store, so you can continue working on the plan. It’s very convenient. I also have to say that we received excellent advice from the consultant, which I never expected.

One small tip: have IKEA take professional kitchen measurements for you. It costs 90€ (about $100), but this fee is deducted from the kitchen price when you purchase. This way, you have the assurance that everything will fit.

Sorry if I’m hijacking the thread: Is it possible to choose stone countertops at Ikea? I can’t seem to find any anywhere...

They offer quartz stone slabs in various styles and colors. Custom sizing is also possible. We also have a real wood countertop that was custom made for us to fill the space from the windowsill up to the window. Additionally, the kitchen island was to be equipped with one large continuous slab (210cm by 140cm (83 by 55 inches)). However, that wasn’t exactly cheap either...

Overall, I think the kitchen is great. But have you also considered planning for a dishwasher? And to be honest, I’m not very fond of the narrow pull-out in the middle of the short side. I would probably position it more to the right. Just be careful in the corner to ensure that all drawers can still open fully and don’t rub against the handles.

The corner solution at Ikea is relatively well done – the blind corners measure 67.5 cm (27 inches).
The dishwasher is located next to the sink. We also made some adjustments to the layout since the water connection wasn’t exactly where we expected it to be.
The 20 cm (8 inches) cabinet next to the stove was chosen for symmetry and to store oils and similar items.
We made a few more minor changes and noticed that light oak doesn’t really look like oak, so now we are leaning towards a real wood countertop or a kitchen in white with dark wood tones.
I’ll post an update with the current status and the other option later this evening.
