Hello everyone,

I am planning to redesign my apartment and am particularly interested in the IKEA Platsa system. This raises the question: Is there an official virtual planner from IKEA that allows you to insert Platsa components online and in 3D to virtually design the room?

I have already found the general IKEA kitchen planner, but so far not one specifically for Platsa. Since I would like to see in advance how the individual elements fit together and how they look in the space, such a planner for room design would be extremely helpful.

Does anyone here know more about this? Are there perhaps independent tools or alternative programs that are compatible with Platsa and can be used for virtual room planning?

Thank you in advance for your insights and experiences!

So far, there is no fully functional Platsa room planner from IKEA.

Only the online configurator for individual modules is available.

Alternative: use your own 3D software.

Hello Edonel,

your question is well thought out and important because virtual planning, especially with modular furniture, greatly influences satisfaction later on.

Regarding the IKEA PLATSA planner: IKEA currently only offers a configurator for the modules themselves. It is specifically designed for assembling the carcasses and doors and also shows prices and availability – however, it does not provide a true room visualization with your floor plan or 3D integration.

If you value comprehensive room planning, the next step would be to use the PLATSA elements outside of IKEA’s software in a 3D tool.

Many people use SketchUp or similar programs for this. The advantage here is that you can accurately recreate the room, add windows, doors, and other furniture, and then position your PLATSA wall flexibly.

The downside is the increased effort involved because you first have to learn the software or find pre-made models.

It might be helpful to build the base with the IKEA configurator and then refine the planning using third-party software.

For PLATSA, there is only the online carcass configurator.

There is currently no real virtual room planner available from IKEA.

I agree! Especially if you have no experience with CAD, it can help to first understand the limitations of the IKEA tools before investing time in more complex programs.

Also, sometimes just using the simple configurator can give you a clear idea of the dimensions you need and which modules are worth considering. That makes the transition to more advanced tools easier.

Absolutely! However, it’s important not to take it too rigidly – the advantage of PLATSA is its flexibility, allowing for small adjustments in everyday use.

So, if you don’t want to get overwhelmed from the start, you can easily test initial ideas this way and later have the plan checked again at the IKEA store.

A combination of virtual planning and in-person consultation usually works best.

Good morning everyone!

I just wanted to quickly mention that IKEA has been updating its tools over the past few years and has even introduced new 3D planners on a trial basis. Currently, the focus for PLATSA still seems to be on the basic configurator, but I would recommend checking for updates regularly.

Especially during the COVID situation, many furniture providers improved their offerings, so maybe there will be more virtual planning options for PLATSA soon. Fortunately, the community here is great—I’ll let you know if I find anything new! 👌
