Hello everyone,
I’m currently considering getting an Ikea Platsa shelving unit because I really like the flexibility of the system. However, I’m specifically wondering if there are open Platsa shelves available without doors, or if the series generally requires doors.
I’m looking for a way to use the shelving more as open storage or display space without having to install doors.
Does anyone know if Ikea Platsa is normally offered as open shelving in the planning or sales process, or do you always have to install the doors separately?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Regarding the question of whether Ikea Platsa shelves come in open models without doors:
In the Ikea range, Platsa system units are generally designed as carcasses with doors or drawers.
The carcasses themselves normally do not have a back panel or doors, but are open boxes. Doors are sold separately as accessories and must be installed if needed. This means the carcasses can be used open simply by leaving out the doors.
There are no specific "open shelves" with a back panel and open sides; instead, the basic carcasses are used without doors. It should be noted that the storage space at the back is open or, if necessary, a back panel can be added separately.
The system is very flexible, and open frames without doors are possible as standard.

For additional information:
The Platsa system consists of individual units that can also be used as open shelves simply by not installing doors. The back panel is normally open, meaning the unit is not enclosed at the back.
It often helps to carefully consider the measurements and storage needs beforehand, as open shelves allow more dust and light to pass through.
I also recommend checking with Ikea whether separate back panels are available for purchase in case you want to close the back later without installing doors.

It is important to know that Ikea Platsa carcasses do not have a closed back panel; they are open at the back. Doors are only for covering the front.
So, if you want a truly open shelving unit, you can simply leave out the doors. Back panels can be purchased separately and installed if needed. Currently, Ikea offers these separately, allowing for flexible configurations.
