Hello everyone,
I am currently planning the design of a shelving unit using the Ikea Platsa system and am particularly interested in the doors. My question to the community is: Does Ikea Platsa offer doors that come standard or alternatively with magnetic catches?
I am mainly looking for a simple and reliable solution that allows the doors to close easily without constant rattling or closing noise.
If anyone has experience or information about suitable products, accessories, or possible modifications, I would be very grateful for a detailed response. It would be especially helpful to know whether these are official Ikea parts or which alternative solutions you would recommend.
Thank you in advance!

I find it somewhat surprising that Ikea doesn’t offer magnetic locks as a standard feature, especially since the system is designed to be modular.
It would be interesting to consider this from a customer perspective—whether this is purely a cost-saving measure or if there are practical reasons behind it. Installing an external magnetic catch might be possible, but what impact would that have on the design and tactile experience?

It is true that Ikea does not sell PLATSA doors with built-in magnetic locks. What I would try is installing a small, flat magnetic catch, like those used in kitchen cabinets.
This makes closing somewhat quieter and more secure. It is important to choose magnets with the right strength so that the door is not too difficult to open.
Also, you should make sure that the installation does not negatively affect the appearance too much. I did this on my PLATSA shelving unit and so far, I am satisfied.
