Hello everyone,

I am planning to redesign my apartment and am particularly interested in the IKEA Platsa system. This raises the question: Is there an official virtual planner from IKEA that allows you to insert Platsa components online and in 3D to virtually design the room?

I have already found the general IKEA kitchen planner, but so far not one specifically for Platsa. Since I would like to see in advance how the individual elements fit together and how they look in the space, such a planner for room design would be extremely helpful.

Does anyone here know more about this? Are there perhaps independent tools or alternative programs that are compatible with Platsa and can be used for virtual room planning?

Thank you in advance for your insights and experiences!

Hi Edonel,

I completely understand that you want to plan virtually in advance – it really saves a lot of stress and wrong purchases! Regarding PLATSA: IKEA does offer a PLATSA planner, but it’s not as comprehensive or detailed as the kitchen planner. There is an option online to assemble the PLATSA furniture digitally, but it is more of a configurator than a true room planner with 3D visualization.

Personally, I sometimes missed that because I like to see the whole room – especially with modular systems. So I can definitely understand that you’re looking for something more. If you don’t find an official IKEA solution, I’ve heard from people who use SketchUp or other 3D tools with PLATSA models, but of course, that is much more time-consuming.

That’s true! I tried the planner myself – it’s quite easy to use and fun, but it’s more of a component configurator than a full room design tool.

Of course, it lacks features like room scanning or virtual walkthroughs that some other providers offer. But for getting a first idea of how your modules fit together, it’s definitely sufficient.

And if you prefer something a bit more playful, having fun with digital drawing programs or SketchUp can help – you can import a model there and then get creative. 😄

Is there an official IKEA PLATSA planner? Yes, a simple configurator.

There is no fully featured virtual room planner.

Alternative: Import IKEA models into SketchUp.

The PLATSA configurator from IKEA runs online but is designed more for assembling than for complete room planning.

Those who want more need to use third-party programs or CAD software.

I have used the PLATSA elements several times with the IKEA planner and find it really great for capturing initial ideas! 🤩

Sure, it’s not a full-featured room planner, but it quickly gives you a sense of how the modules fit together. That’s really motivating to get started right away!

However, if someone is looking for more creative freedom, programs like SketchUp or Roomstyler are excellent. I used them to fully furnish my apartment virtually – it was a lot of fun, and in the end, you get a much better idea of whether everything fits!
