klapuHello everyone,
I am currently planning a new kitchen based on the Ikea Metod system and am considering the choice of a suitable countertop. Since Ikea offers quite a few options, but I am also thinking about alternative materials for the countertop, I would like to ask the community: Which materials work particularly well for Ikea Metod kitchen countertops, both in terms of handling and regarding durability, maintenance, and appearance?
For me, factors such as moisture resistance, heat resistance, and easy cleaning are important, as well as the possibility to cut or customize the material myself if needed.
Who has experience with different countertop materials for Metod kitchens? Please feel free to share any insights on the advantages and disadvantages of the various materials, possibly also regarding cost-effectiveness or special installation tips. Thanks in advance!

The choice of material largely depends on how it will be used. Laminate is easy to maintain and affordable but is not as heat-resistant. Solid wood looks great but requires regular care. Quartz composite or natural stone offer excellent durability and are resistant to scratches and heat, but these tend to be in a higher price range.

Solid wood looks great but requires regular maintenance. Exactly, you really have to keep up with wood maintenance – otherwise, it can get costly with cracks or warping. Laminate is great for a smaller budget, but quartz definitely looks more stylish and is more durable.
Of course, it costs more, but I would say quality definitely pays off when it comes to countertops! 😁
For installation with Metod, prefabricated panels with precise edge guides are best, as they are easier to adjust. I recommend HPL laminate (High Pressure Laminate) due to its high scratch and heat resistance compared to standard, lower-cost laminate. Alternatively, Dekton or Silestone quartz composite surfaces are excellent, but they are significantly more expensive and require professional installation.
