Hello experts,
we have finally found a plot of land, and the planning is in its final stages.
What do you think of our floor plan? Any suggestions for improvement?
1. The plot is on a slope, which is why there is a partial basement. We actually never wanted a basement, but it makes sense here because the homeowner really wants a double garage.
2. The plot faces north at the back. The plot is 17m (56 feet) wide (building area 11m (36 feet)) and 42m (138 feet) long (building area at the front 20m (66 feet)). The road is completely on the south side, so a full south-facing orientation is not possible. The building area does not allow it. However, we don't see this as a problem and hope that the many windows will provide enough natural light inside the house.

The stair window was certainly placed where it is for aesthetic reasons.
I really like the bathroom design by Bauexperte! There are plenty of options for windows.
However, I would keep the bathtub as it is and move the laundry chute. Since it’s only one floor, you are quite flexible here. It would be better to add a cabinet or shelf next to the window. After all, you need storage space in the bathroom.

I find the window in the middle of the landing more important. From the outside, the distances between the stair windows and the adjacent ones are no longer equally spaced anyway. The main thing is symmetry... I will pass that on later.
The laundry chute can’t be moved just anywhere; it needs to end in the storage room downstairs, preferably not in the middle of the room but along a wall...

Hmm... I think I understand what you mean. I have to say, I don’t like bathrooms with a lot of walking space in the middle... I only see that as useful for cleaning... The room is just under 15 sqm (161 sq ft) with a 90 cm (35 inch) knee wall and a 32° roof pitch... I’ve worked a lot with bathroom planners on this, but I always end up with this layout... Do you have another idea? What would go where???
I would say: you have only marked walking and traffic areas in the bathroom so far. I find the example from Bauexperte much neater and more organized. It looks much more elegant in real life! I also wouldn’t place the toilet by the window, but the plan still allows plenty of room for other variations.
How about something like this...
You would need to move the floor-to-ceiling window slightly and adjust the elevations accordingly so that everything aligns properly again. This would also benefit the children's room, as it would create space for a wardrobe. From what I've seen, it wouldn't affect the ground floor if you adjust the windows there as well.
I would then place the roof window in the bathroom centered between the shower and the bathtub.
