Hello everyone,
I am currently considering whether there is a way to retrofit my Ikea Pax cabinets with a soft-close mechanism. Specifically, I’m wondering if there are compatible soft-close hinges or add-on parts that can be installed on the existing doors without significantly altering the original door or the cabinet frame.
It is important to me that the function works reliably and that the doors close not only gently but also quietly. Has anyone had experience with retrofit solutions or can recommend products that are suitable for this?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I did exactly this on my Pax a few months ago and can only recommend it: soft-close makes a huge difference!
If anyone is hesitant: there are ready-made soft-close hinges from Blum that fit perfectly. Installation is relatively easy, about half an hour per door, and you hardly hear any slamming anymore. It’s truly an upgrade for the home!
If you want, I can gladly give you some tips on installation or explain how to properly adjust it to make sure the soft-close function works optimally.

For adjustment:
- Make sure the door sits flush with the cabinet frame.
- Use the adjustment screws on the hinges to set the height, depth, and lateral position.
- Test closing multiple times until the damper activates smoothly.
- If the door still slams shut too quickly, it may help to slightly turn the screw that fine-tunes the damping level (if available).
In conclusion: Soft-close hinges are a simple investment that significantly improves comfort and noise reduction in cabinets!
