Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod wall cabinet set in my kitchen, and unfortunately, some of the doors are warped. The warping makes it difficult to close the doors properly, the gaps look uneven, and overall the appearance is affected. My question is: What is the best way to fix warped IKEA Metod doors without replacing them completely? Are there proven methods or specific procedures that won’t damage the wood or the surface? I have considered whether moisture or incorrect installation might be the cause, but I am specifically looking for tips on how to straighten the doors fairly easily. Thanks in advance for your help!

Sometimes it also helps to readjust the hinges or to place thin washers behind the hinges.

Exactly, this is a simple way to improve the door’s appearance despite warping. Loosening some screws, inserting washers in the right spot, and then tightening the screws again can significantly reduce the impression of warping.

Important: Measure precisely beforehand to ensure even gaps. This method protects the door itself, reduces mechanical stress, and is reversible.

Thanks to everyone for your many detailed responses! I will first carefully check the hinges and possibly readjust them, maybe using washers as you suggested. If that’s not enough, I will try the moisture method with weight, placing the door with the film side down on a flat surface.

I will update here on how it goes and whether this helps to get the doors back in better condition.

One last question: Does anyone have experience with how long the maximum drying time can be using the moisture method before the wood gets damaged or the film comes loose?

Regarding drying time: A moisture treatment with weighting should not last longer than 24 hours.

You should not keep the door wet for longer because the MDF will start to swell and the foil may begin to peel off.

Regularly check whether the surface changes. Any blistering or discoloration are warning signs.

If you are careful, you can minimize damage through regular monitoring and controlled air supply.

Additionally, I would say that if the material remains damp for too long, it can easily deform permanently or the surface may get damaged.

Repeated unsuccessful attempts to fix the issue by adding moisture will tend to shorten the doors’ lifespan in the long run.
