Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod wall cabinet set in my kitchen, and unfortunately, some of the doors are warped. The warping makes it difficult to close the doors properly, the gaps look uneven, and overall the appearance is affected. My question is: What is the best way to fix warped IKEA Metod doors without replacing them completely? Are there proven methods or specific procedures that won’t damage the wood or the surface? I have considered whether moisture or incorrect installation might be the cause, but I am specifically looking for tips on how to straighten the doors fairly easily. Thanks in advance for your help!
I wonder if the construction of the Metod doors is even designed to allow bending after installation. These doors are usually some type of multi-layer MDF with a foil covering, right?
Many manufacturers generally prohibit bending because it can affect the adhesion of the foil or the stability of the material. Instead, wouldn’t it make more sense to improve the hinge adjustment or offer an option to replace the doors?
Has anyone checked if IKEA offers any goodwill policy for such deformations? That might be a better long-term solution.

The foil coating seems very thin and delicate, which makes me worried that mechanical bending could leave marks or cause cracks.
I’ll check the tip about adjusting the hinges since the gaps are actually uneven due to the warping. If the doors still don’t close properly after that, I might try the moisture method again.
I'm sorry you're dealing with such a problem! I know how frustrating it is when furniture no longer works properly.
I had similar issues and was advised not only to weigh down the doors but also to let them dry slowly in a warm, dry room for at least one day afterward. Cold or drafts can otherwise worsen the result.
Don’t stress if it doesn’t go perfectly the first time. Sometimes patience and trying a few times are what’s needed. The doors are valuable and certainly deserve the effort and time spent in the kitchen!

Great thread! I also just managed to get a bent Metod door reasonably straight again using this method. I found it important not to use too much moisture; it’s really more of a slow process.
The tip with the damp cloth and weighting it down helped me the most—it really makes a difference!
Keep it up, it’s really motivating to push the DIY spirit!

- IKEA Metod doors are usually made of MDF with a foil coating (not solid wood).
- MDF is sensitive to moisture, which causes the panel to swell and warp.
- Physically, a warped MDF element can only be corrected to a limited extent because the material is under stress.
- Re-bending can cause surface damage, especially with foil coverings.
Recommendation: Try applying controlled moisture and weight for a few hours to force the material back into shape. Genuine repairs often require replacement.
Also, check the hinges and their adjustment – fittings can often be improved without mechanically deforming the door.
