Hello everyone, I recently assembled an IKEA Platsa cabinet and am now facing the issue of properly aligning the doors. The doors should close flush and be as evenly aligned as possible, but despite adjustment attempts, they either sit too loosely or tilt slightly. Are there any tips or tricks for optimally aligning the Platsa doors? I am especially interested in which screws or mechanisms to focus on and whether there are small tools that can make the alignment easier. Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m wondering exactly how roughly I should adjust the doors? Is there an order in which I should adjust the different screws on the hinges? The order is important: first adjust the depth so that the door sits flush with the cabinet frame. Then adjust the height to ensure the door is level at the top and bottom. Finally, adjust the side-to-side position to even out the gap between the doors. Between each step, you should close the door and check the fit. For Platsa, the hinges are similar to other IKEA models, but you need to be especially careful with the side adjustment to avoid the doors sticking or not closing properly.
In addition to the previously mentioned tips: Platsa hinges have three adjustment screws. It is important not to overtighten the screw for depth adjustment, as this can damage the mechanism. Also, make sure that the doors are not warped – sometimes it helps to remove the door from the hinges and place it on a flat surface to rule out any distortion. If you want to work very precisely, you can use a small square or a spirit level to check if the door panel is hanging perfectly straight. Another step is to check the cabinet walls, as they are sometimes not perfectly straight themselves, which can affect the door alignment.
One more quick tip: If the doors still close unevenly after alignment, check the screws on the cabinet body mounting. Sometimes the cabinet body is not perfectly square, which shifts the door position. Slight adjustments or adding small washers can help improve the alignment.

It is important to take your time and check step by step. Exactly. I’ve also noticed that you really need patience with this kind of furniture. With some understanding of the mechanics, it usually works out in the end. Sometimes it’s also helpful to adjust the doors together with someone else who can better assess the alignment from the outside.
Thank you for the very helpful contributions! To summarize, I will proceed as follows:
- First, check the cabinet settings to ensure everything is straight and stable.
- Then, remove the doors from the hinges and check for any warping.
- Next, systematically align the doors using the depth, height, and lateral adjustments of the hinges.
- Regularly close the doors and check during the process.
- If necessary, insert small shims or wedges.
If I encounter any specific problems, I will report back. Thanks again to everyone for the great tips!
