Hello everyone,
I recently put together the IKEA Platsa system and am now considering the best way to equip the doors with handles. My specific question is: Does IKEA offer special handles designed specifically for Platsa doors, or are these doors generally intended to be used with third-party or standard furniture handles?
I am especially interested in compatibility, ease of installation, and appearance. Has anyone had experience with this or possibly has alternative recommendations?
Thank you for your help!

It’s really cool that there is so much freedom when choosing handles.I completely agree. At first, I was uncertain and worried that I might get overwhelmed by picking the wrong handles. But in the end, the flexibility wins me over.
Besides, it’s also a personal style you can incorporate, and Platsa certainly offers room for that, which I really like.
Important: The PLATSA doors are 16 mm (5/8 inch) thick, so you should ensure that the screws of your handles are long enough to be securely fastened through the door panel.
Some doors also come with concealed hinges, so in those cases, the handle should be positioned with enough clearance from the hinge.
Check the exact dimensions before purchase and, if necessary, create temporary mock-ups for testing.

I used screws that are 25 mm (1 inch) long for my handles. This proved ideal, as it properly covers the thickness of the door plus the handle.
I also recommend checking the screw length before purchasing, as IKEA usually provides only a standard size that may not fit all handles.

If drilling is not an option, you can quickly upgrade the PLATSA doors this way, but adhesive handles are less durable. Thanks for the tip, that’s a good compromise for rental apartments or when you want to keep the doors without any damage.
However, you should really use high-quality adhesive and check them regularly to make sure they don’t eventually fall off unnoticed.
Overall, a useful suggestion for more options!
