ᐅ How can I close Ikea PLATSA doors safely and quietly?

Hello everyone, I have a Platsa module from Ikea with the matching cabinet doors, and I want to be able to close the doors as quietly and safely as possible, without them slamming or wearing out quickly. My main issues are the loud slamming of the doors and the feeling that they don’t latch cleanly or close completely.

Does anyone have tips or solutions on how to adjust or retrofit the doors so they close more gently and quietly? Are there any recommended dampers or special hinges that work well? Any experiences with installation options or settings would also be very helpful, as I want to do this myself but as professionally and sustainably as possible. Thanks in advance for your opinions and advice!

Just check if the door opens and closes smoothly. If not, inspect the hinges and adjust them if necessary. This reduces the effort needed and prevents loud slamming.

I find the effect of soft-close dampers almost overrated. In some furniture, the banging is not just a consistency issue but also a sign of cheap material. Sometimes investing more effort in finding the perfect damper doesn’t help much if the base material isn’t properly sealed.

Maybe it’s better to invest in a solid seal or magnetic catches – imagine no more slamming, and the door simply closes thanks to magnetic force.

I agree with this point. The construction of the Platsa doors is generally designed for cost efficiency. To improve closing, a combination of adjusting the hinges, installing soft-close dampers, and possibly adding self-adhesive rubber bumpers is advisable. This reduces mechanical stress and ensures quiet closing.

Magnetic closures actually hadn’t occurred to me yet. I have two questions about them: Can they be easily retrofitted on PLATSA? And what about stability and preventing gaps – are the magnets strong enough to hold the door firmly in place, or do they mainly just help with closing?

Magnetic catches are often quite easy to install, especially on wooden furniture. They hold the doors securely but are not a complete substitute for a proper hinge damper.

For safe and quiet closing, the combination of a magnetic catch plus a soft-close damper works best.

I also had issues with the PLATSA doors. For me, retrofitting high-quality hinge dampers and adding self-adhesive silicone bumpers to the door frames worked quite well. This not only protects the door but also provides a pleasant closing sound.

It is important to work with reasonable precision when adjusting them to ensure long-lasting functionality.
