Hello everyone,
I recently purchased several Ikea Platsa cabinets and am generally satisfied with the system. However, the doors bother me because they slam loudly when closed, as they don’t have a soft-close feature. I’m interested in whether and how it’s possible to retrofit Ikea PLATSA doors with a soft-close mechanism.
I’ve already seen some partial solutions online, such as installing external soft-close hinges or additional dampers, but often these are not specifically designed for PLATSA or only fit partially.
Has anyone here had experience successfully and reliably retrofitting the doors with soft-close? Are there mechanisms that can be directly replaced, or alternatives that work well with standard PLATSA doors?
I would really appreciate it if you could share your experiences, tips, or even specific products or modification guides. Thanks!

Are there any recommendations for how or exactly where soft-close dampers should be installed?I installed the dampers on the inside of the cabinet side panel near the bottom of my Platsa cabinets, so that the door hits the damper when closing. This effectively slows down the door from slamming shut, and the installation is quite quick.

It would also be interesting to know if the dampers eventually cause the door to warp or if they are bad for the hingesIn my experience, not so far. After several months, the doors still hang perfectly, with no warping or hinge issues. I did experiment a bit with the amount of damping to find the right balance.

Depending on the type of damper, you can attach them with adhesive, screws, or glue. It is important that they are securely fixed; otherwise, they will lose their function.
Regarding your concern: as long as the doors are properly hung, the hinges should not be stressed or warped by this. A smooth braking action is better than a slam, which causes mechanical stress.
If you like, I can also sketch a diagram showing exactly where I installed the dampers on my PLATSA cabinet.
