Hello everyone, I recently received a new kitchen with matte IKEA Metod fronts and am now facing the challenge of cleaning them without damaging the matte finish or surface. I am especially interested in methods and products that are effective but do not leave scratches, shiny spots, or other unpleasant residues. Are there any special cleaning agents or home remedies that work particularly well?

Additionally, it would be helpful if you could share experiences with long-term care, as I want to avoid the fronts becoming stained or unattractive over time. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice!

I know from personal experience how frustrating it can be to discover unwanted shiny spots or dull patches after cleaning. This can be especially discouraging with matte surfaces.

It’s important not only to clean the fronts gently but also to keep in mind that many care products leave residues that can alter the appearance.

My recommendation: Always test the cleaner first on a small corner and wipe it off thoroughly. If possible, clean more frequently with water instead of relying heavily on chemical cleaning agents.

That often goes wrong. Many products from DIY stores are designed for harder surfaces, not for delicate matte finishes.

I recommend avoiding products containing solvents, alcohol, or ammonia. pH-neutral and mild cleaners are best.

A homemade remedy I often suggest is water with a drop of dish soap, optionally with a small amount of vinegar essence (but really very little, to avoid lowering the pH too much) – however, it’s better to avoid vinegar if you’re unsure.

I always wipe my IKEA Metod fronts with clear water and a microfiber cloth. No soaps or cleaners. That is usually enough, and the surfaces stay flawless.

This is a very important point!

These marks often occur due to improper drying or residue from cleaning agents. You need to be especially careful when wiping surfaces with a damp cloth and not immediately follow up by drying them with a soft, dry cloth. Water spots or leftover cleaning products can quickly alter the matte finish. My advice: always dry surfaces right away, ideally with a lint-free cloth.

Additionally, avoid letting surfaces dry in direct sunlight, as the sun can intensify water spots.

I have found vinegar cleaner to be effective, but only when heavily diluted and used sparingly. Otherwise, the surfaces can become brittle or appear spotted.

I would generally be cautious about that – vinegar is acidic and can damage painted surfaces over time.

I would clearly recommend using pH-neutral cleaners to avoid structural damage to the paint. It’s definitely worth closely monitoring the surfaces after cleaning with vinegar for any early signs of dulling.
