Some time ago, I bought the IKEA Platsa wardrobe and now I would like to know the best way to clean the protective strips on the doors and edges of this furniture. These protective strips are the small plastic or rubber parts that are exposed to constant contact and use, and over time they can become dirty or look worn.
Since I want to avoid damaging the material structure or color through improper cleaning, I am looking for a gentle yet thorough cleaning method.
Can anyone share their experience with which products and techniques have proven effective to clean the protective strips well without causing damage?
Thanks in advance for your tips!

For gentle cleaning of the IKEA PLATSA skirting boards, the following method is recommended:
- Start by using a soft sponge or microfiber cloth with lukewarm water and a small amount of mild, neutral dish soap.
- Gently clean the skirting boards to remove loose dirt.
- Stubborn stains can be removed with a mild alcohol-based cleaner, but only use it sparingly.
- Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals, as plastic parts may become dull and brittle.
- Afterwards, wipe the surfaces thoroughly with clean water and dry them.
This ensures thorough cleaning without damaging the surfaces.

The PLATSA moldings are quite sturdy, but you don’t want any surprises on the rubber or plastic seals. And hey, since you’re already cleaning: the moldings respond best to gentle care, so it’s better to clean lightly and often than to scrub hard once.
It might sound a bit picky, but trust me, your baseboards will thank you 🎉.
Here is an additional tip: If the trim strips are very dirty, soaking them with a damp cloth for 5 to 10 minutes can help loosen the dirt. After that, everything can be wiped off much more easily.
When using a cleaning agent, apply it sparingly and remove any excess immediately to avoid stickiness or discoloration.
Please never use sharp blades or abrasive sponges on the trim strips, as this will only cause scratches and, in the worst case, cracks in the material.
If the trim looks dull after cleaning, let it dry thoroughly and air out for several hours. This helps prevent long-term damage.
