Last week, I purchased a kitchen from IKEA. One of the components was the LAGAN BF 275 range hood. Since my kitchen does not have an external vent, it is supposed to operate in recirculation mode, which requires an activated carbon filter (Item No.: 101.745.56) that was not in stock at the store.

When I checked to see if it was available yet, I noticed that this type of filter is not available at any of the IKEA stores in Berlin. Even worse, there is no information about when it will be back in stock:

"This item is currently not available at your store. The expected delivery date is unknown.
This item is also available online. Simply add the product to your cart."

However, a shipping fee of €86.00 (approximately $86.00) is automatically charged for online orders.
It is noticeable that this filter is only available in very few IKEA stores.

Are they possibly discontinuing accessories for products that are still listed in their current range?
If so, is there an alternative source where I can buy a compatible filter? Otherwise, I will probably have to throw the range hood away before I even get a chance to use it.

Maybe there are "just" supplier issues.
I'll ask around!

Hi,

recirculation hoods and charcoal filters are being phased out in the long term. Only small shipments are still being delivered to stores; most of the stock is sent to central warehouses to cover online orders. Unfortunately, I can’t explain why you are seeing such a high shipping cost—I suspect a system error. You’ll probably need to contact the Ikea customer service hotline for help with that.

You can still install your hood regardless. It will be possible to reorder charcoal filters through a central warehouse in Sweden. As far as I know, the stock has not yet arrived there. Alternatively, you can order the charcoal filters directly from the manufacturers. Ikea works only with two: Electrolux and Whirlpool, both well-known brands. Your hood has a number listed on it that, using the customer service slip you hopefully received at purchase, will tell you which manufacturer applies to your case. I believe it is Whirlpool, but I can’t guarantee that right now. Then call the heat pump customer service number on the slip, provide that number, and they will tell you the cost of the charcoal filter.

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I will take a look at it. I haven’t opened the package yet, so I don’t know if there is a customer service card inside.

I went to Ikea yesterday and asked about the filter.
They told me that the product range is being restructured, which is why storage capacity is being reduced (???).
When I asked when this part might be available again, they couldn’t give me an answer but gave me a phone number for Whirlpool customer service and said the filter can be ordered from there, although at a significantly higher price.
According to online information, including shipping costs, it will cost me nearly €50.00 (about $54.00).
So, I wrote a request to Ikea customer service asking whether the item is available online and why freight shipping is automatically selected.
Here is their response:

Hello,

Thank you very much for your message.

You can check the availability of individual IKEA items directly on our website.
Please go directly to IKEA.de and enter the desired item in the search bar at the top.

This way you can quickly and easily find out whether your desired item is available in your local IKEA store.

Thank you!

Best regards,

I feel completely taken for a ride...
I’m now trying to buy a universal filter from somewhere.
I’ve found supposedly identical ones from other suppliers, but somehow the dimensions don’t quite match.
The universal one apparently comes with various adapters, so hopefully I’ll encounter few unpleasant surprises.
Still, I’m no longer happy with Ikea.
This is really unacceptable.
I’m considering replying to this email with a complaint, but it looks like nobody reads these anyway, since the reply was too fast and seems to be made up mostly of standard text blocks.
