Notan58Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to install an Ikea Metod kitchen unit, integrating several electrical appliances such as a cooktop, oven, refrigerator, and dishwasher.
My questions mainly concern the practical aspects of coordinating the appliances and assembling the kitchen base units. Specifically, I am interested in the following points:
- What is the best way to assemble the individual Metod base cabinets to ensure a stable and level countertop installation?
- What should be considered regarding the wiring and power supply for the electrical appliances? Especially when multiple appliances need to be connected to different electrical circuits.
- Are there any tips for fitting the appliances into the Metod units, for example concerning ventilation, clearance, or installation dimensions?
I have already prepared the floor plans and know that the power outlets are located in different positions, which might complicate the installation.
I would appreciate any practical advice, especially from those who have already assembled a Metod kitchen with multiple electrical appliances.
Thank you very much in advance!

Hey Notan58,
great to hear you’re tackling the Ikea Metod system! 😃 Planning is definitely half the battle.
For assembly, I recommend building all the base cabinets first without attaching the countertop. This gives you flexibility to adjust for any inaccuracies. Make sure to firmly connect the cabinets to each other using the included fasteners, so everything becomes stable and won’t wobble later on. This is really important because otherwise the countertop won’t sit properly!
Regarding the appliances: pay close attention to the installation dimensions provided by Ikea and also the ventilation openings on the devices. Especially the cooktop and oven generate a lot of heat and therefore need good ventilation behind and underneath.
Electrical circuits? Try to connect the appliances separately where possible. For example, have the cooktop and oven on different breakers, and ideally give the dishwasher its own circuit. You don’t want the breaker to trip constantly while cooking! 😬
When centering the appliances, make sure to leave enough clearance on both sides, especially for the refrigerator—it usually needs some space, otherwise it can cause noise or excessive heat buildup at the sides.
Good luck! Feel free to share your progress anytime, I’m happy to help!

Hello Notan58,
I would like to add some points, especially regarding the electrical supply, as it is often underestimated:
- First, check the basic electrical installation in your house. Are all circuits properly protected? A high-power connection is usually required for the stove, which should not be shared with other household appliances.
- When wiring the kitchen, it can be helpful to position the outlets for appliances – stove, oven, dishwasher – close to the respective base cabinets to avoid cables being overly visible or inconveniently routed.
- For the dishwasher, an outlet behind a base cabinet or directly in the plinth area is often recommended to maintain a clean look.
Regarding the assembly of the modules:
- Work carefully with a spirit level and align the lower cabinets precisely so the countertop will sit perfectly level.
- Install the connecting fittings between cabinets before mounting the countertop.
- Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for wall mounting, as this significantly increases stability.
On the topic of appliance ventilation:
- They should allow for air circulation behind the appliances, even though the Metod units are quite slim.
- Sometimes it is advisable to use a ventilation grille strip, especially above the oven and stove.
I hope this helps. If you encounter specific issues during assembly, feel free to describe them in detail.

When assembling the modules:
- Work carefully with a spirit level and align the base cabinets precisely, so the countertop will sit flush later.I can only emphasize this. When assembling my Metod kitchen, I was also surprised how even a tiny misalignment caused issues later with the countertop and appliance cutouts.
I was also concerned about the simultaneous connection of multiple appliances and the load on the electrical circuits. My experience is: if in doubt, have an electrician confirm that the distribution is suitable.

Regarding the appliances: Make sure to pay close attention to the installation dimensions provided by Ikea, as well as the ventilation gaps on the appliances.Very important. For example, I underestimated how much space a dishwasher needs from the wall to avoid rattling and to drain properly.
At first, the assembly can be a bit stressful, but with calmness and a systematic approach, you will manage it well, Notan58!
