Good morning, dear IKEA community!
At the end of March, we ordered a new kitchen for our new apartment, where we currently only have a temporary kitchen (with an IKEA oven and cooktop), from IKEA Kassel. The order included a 3.10-meter (10.2 feet) long Personlig countertop. Unfortunately, we did not opt for installation, as we would soon find out...
Last Friday, everything was delivered. Hats off to the two delivery men; the older gentleman simply carried the countertop on his shoulder up to the third floor!
Last night and early this morning, we assembled the cabinet carcasses and unpacked the countertop. We realized that the ordered cutouts for the sink and cooktop (both, of course, from IKEA) were only marked but not fully cut out. In other words, where the cutouts were supposed to be, we found shallow saw marks about 2 or 3 centimeters (around 1 inch) deep and roughly the same width, but the countertop in the middle of each cutout still remained intact.
Why weren’t the cutouts fully made? How should we proceed with this now without the proper tools? The countertop at the saw marks is still too thick to simply break out (which would probably look very messy).
Thank you in advance for your advice!
Best regards,
Family Münscher

Elvis_122022 Apr 2012 11:20That’s correct – the cutouts on Personlig laminate countertops are only pre-routed and can’t be fully finished without a jigsaw.
In my opinion, it’s a nice feature but not worth the price. Didn’t the staff mention this to you when you placed the order? Unfortunately, it won’t help – you’ll need to get a jigsaw yourself (available from around 15 euros in hardware stores – it will be enough for the two cutouts).

IKEA-Experte22 Apr 2012 15:23The reason for this is probably that the risk of breakage during transport is very high at the points where the cutout is.
