Hello everyone, I’m planning to upgrade my IKEA Metod kitchen with new backsplashes because the standard options aren’t flexible enough for me. So I’m wondering: what materials work best as kitchen backsplashes for IKEA Metod? My main concerns are durability, moisture resistance, and of course easy handling and installation, as I want to do this myself as much as possible. Are there any experiences or recommendations for specific materials like glass, tiles, HPL panels, stainless steel, or even creative alternatives? And what should I consider regarding maintenance and longevity when choosing? Looking forward to your insights!

Glass is a very popular choice because it is easy to clean and water-resistant. HPL panels are also good, as they are durable and low-maintenance. Tiles also work well, but installation can be more complex.

As a supplement: For kitchen backsplashes with IKEA Metod, materials that resist moisture and heat and are easy to clean are particularly suitable. Glass is advantageous because it is completely impermeable and does not discolor or stain. HPL panels (High Pressure Laminate) are known for their scratch resistance and chemical durability but are less heat-resistant than glass. Stainless steel is very durable and hygienic, though more costly and requires precise workmanship. Tiles offer design flexibility but are prone to dirt accumulation in the grout lines. Careful sealing is essential, especially at the joints, to prevent moisture damage to the wall or cabinet carcass.

Super interesting question! I installed glass splashbacks in my home, and they are amazing – very low maintenance and visually super modern! It really feels like being in a professional kitchen 🙂 Of course, they need to be securely fixed, but it’s definitely worth it!

That may be true, but the cost and effort involved in precisely cutting and fitting them should not be underestimated. In addition, glass provides little to no sound insulation. HPL panels are more affordable, but as nonere rightly points out, they are sensitive to heat – meaning pots should not be placed directly against them. For those seeking durability and longevity, it’s important to balance aesthetics, functionality, and effort at least to some extent.

Tiles are a good choice if you are looking for a classic, durable solution. However, careful planning is necessary to keep the number of grout lines as low as possible, as they can be difficult to keep clean.
