Hello everyone, I am facing the challenge of installing IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets in an apartment with uneven walls. The walls are not perfectly vertical, which makes the usual slotting and screwing options less effective. My question is: how can I ensure that Metod cabinets are still mounted securely and stably? What additional measures or tools are useful to minimize the risk of tipping or deformation? Are there proven techniques to compensate for wall irregularities without losing the modularity of the cabinets? Thanks for your tips!

Are you using any special materials for the spacers? Wood, plastic, or metal?

I agree, plastic and wood are the most common. My advice: if the walls are heavily sloped, it can help to cut small plywood sheets yourself and use them as wedge supports. They are sturdy, lightweight, and easy to adjust. Don’t forget to check the cabinet base height with a tape measure beforehand and adjust the supports accordingly – this prevents any wobbling later on.

Great topic! I recently installed an IKEA Metod kitchen in my apartment with uneven walls and can only say: perseverance pays off! 😄 It’s important to take your time to align everything precisely. For me, it helped to first place the cabinets loosely together and then adjust them using wedges or shims. After that, assemble everything and only then secure it to the wall. Once fixed, everything stands solid as a rock! 👍

Let's be honest: Who of us really has perfect walls? The effort to align everything perfectly can quickly become overwhelming. One might wonder if the IKEA Metod system is even designed for such challenging situations. My opinion is that if you truly need stability, it's better to choose a fully modular system that allows for individual adjustments of wall cabinets. But yes, with the right hacks, quite a bit can be achieved here as well... 😉

This point is important. IKEA Metod is generally designed for straight walls. When dealing with uneven walls, the use of shims or wedges is unavoidable. Additionally, the assembly instructions should be carefully followed, especially regarding the screw points. To enhance stability: - Screw the cabinets together using the included connecting hardware - Secure them to load-bearing areas of the wall - Use leveling pads under cabinet feet or along the entire front if the floor is uneven. I also recommend checking the load capacity of the mounting materials and, if necessary, using anchors suitable for solid walls.

I feel the same way as you, Glasteven0. I also had crooked walls and was unsure if the whole thing was stable. After several attempts, I realized that staying calm helps a lot. Place shims in the right spots, and only tighten the connecting screws once all the cabinets are properly aligned. At first, I was afraid it might tip over, but over time the system really held up well. It was also reassuring for me to regularly check the cabinets step by step during assembly. You can do it!

Yay, a topic like this! Last year, I also had a crooked wall, which was a challenge when installing the Metod kitchen. My advice: Be flexible and don’t skimp on stability. Use wooden wedges, firmly connect the cabinets to each other, and take your time with the alignment. The result? A stable kitchen that doesn’t shift! Keep it up, you’ve got this! 💪
