Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install Ikea Metod base cabinets in a room with sloped walls (pitched roof). My question is: Is it possible to adapt the Metod cabinets to these angled walls without making the installation unstable or causing visual defects?

Are custom cuts to the sides or special mounting methods possible to compensate for the slope in a neat way? I would appreciate any tips based on your experience, as well as advice on the necessary tools and materials if you have already done this.

Hello Dietmarpin, I can understand your concern well, as I had a similar installation last year.

Basically, yes, you can adapt Metod cabinets to sloped walls, but it should be done with caution. The Metod units are originally designed for flat walls, and if you simply try to position them against a slanted wall, the stability may be compromised.

What helped me was a special corner made with custom-cut wood that compensated for the slope, allowing the cabinets to be mounted straight without being wedged against the wall.

Perhaps this approach helps you—customizing is possible but requires great care. I would also suggest considering whether a custom-built cabinet by a carpenter might be easier in the long run.

In addition to warrenka57: For angled walls, it is advisable to use a shadow gap profile or a filler strip to conceal the gap between the cabinet and the wall.

Metod cabinets do not typically allow adjustments for sloped walls, as they are made from rectangular panels. Cutting the cabinet body is therefore not easily done, as it compromises the stability of the glued joints.

The proper method is to position the cabinets vertically and compensate for any unevenness with moldings or custom-made trim pieces.

Tools: A jigsaw, circular saw with guide, and sanding tool are the minimum required for cutting, but for safety reasons, it is better to hire a professional carpenter company.

Metod cabinets are not designed to directly compensate for slanted sides.

It is best to install the cabinets upright and fill any gaps with appropriate trim pieces.

Adapting Metod carcasses to sloped walls is technically challenging because they are modular, rectangular systems without integrated sloping elements.

It is recommended to install the cabinets vertically and use a custom wedge or panel to compensate for the slope.

In doing so, it should be checked whether the wall can be sufficiently secured with anchors and bracket fasteners to properly transfer the loads.

I understand you very well. My concern was quite similar, and I noticed that people often move away from the wall to maintain a straight front. A custom wood cut spacer to compensate for the slope worked well for me.

Additionally, I installed small adjustable feet underneath to balance out minor unevenness. This provides flexibility when setting up.
