Hello everyone,
I recently purchased several IKEA Besta furniture units and want to securely attach them to the wall to prevent tipping and increase stability. My question is: Which wall plugs and screws are best suited for firmly mounting IKEA Besta cabinets to different wall types (e.g., concrete, drywall, brick)?
It is especially important to me that the mounting holds reliably even under full load and that there is no risk from loose anchors. Although I have the fastening hardware supplied by IKEA, I am unsure whether these are sufficient for my walls or if I should opt for stronger alternatives.
I would greatly appreciate any experiences and recommendations regarding which types of wall plugs and screws have proven effective when used with Besta furniture. Additionally, it would be helpful if you could briefly explain what to pay attention to when installing the plugs and screws to ensure everything remains secure. Thanks in advance!

For drywall, metal hollow wall anchors are the most reliable for heavy furniture like BestaI agree with this. Especially for drywall, standard plastic anchors are not an option because they do not hold in hollow walls.
For concrete and brick: use nylon anchors with the appropriate diameter and depth. The screws should definitely match the length of the anchors. This ensures a secure fixing that can withstand loads for many years.
Hello everyone,
I would like to add to the discussion the importance of securing furniture at multiple points to prevent tipping over.
A single screw is rarely enough, especially for tall and deep Besta units. Here is my proven procedure:
- Check the walls carefully (concrete, brick, drywall) and choose anchors accordingly.
- For concrete/brick: use nylon or metal expansion anchors, 8 mm (5/16 inch) or larger.
- For drywall: use hollow wall metal anchors or toggle bolts that distribute the weight behind the panel.
- Use chipboard screws 5x60 mm (5/16 x 2 3/8 inches), which usually have the appropriate length.
- Plan multiple anchor points per piece of furniture—at least two at the top, possibly one near the bottom.
- Before installation, measure and drill the mounting positions precisely, avoiding drilling too close to edges.
Additionally, I recommend placing furniture securely against the wall and firmly on the floor. This prevents harmful stress on the screws.
Finally, the original IKEA anchors are designed for light-duty fastening but may not be optimal under full load. Using higher-quality and appropriate anchors pays off.
I hope this helps everyone here!
