Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble an Ikea Besta system soon and want to avoid common misunderstandings that often occur in the instructions or during assembly. Specifically, I’m interested in knowing which typical mistakes or misinterpretations should be considered when putting together the Ikea Besta, so that, for example, holes aren’t drilled in the wrong place, parts aren’t mixed up, or drawers don’t get stuck later on.

I’m looking not just for superficial tips like “read the assembly manual carefully,” but for concrete advice based on personal experience about the main challenges—such as regarding pre-assembled parts, attaching the unit to the wall, or connecting the modules.

Who has practical experience and can point out the most common pitfalls to avoid when assembling the Ikea Besta?

Additional notes on wall mounting:
- A common issue is that the wall plugs do not match the wall material. Drywall requires special hollow wall anchors.
- Another important aspect is the distance between the mounting points. This must be strictly observed to avoid pressure marks on the cabinet.
- Properly installed, wall mounting significantly increases safety.
- It is also advisable to use a spirit level to align the furniture precisely before screwing it to the wall.

Not to forget: The drawer slides can jam if they are not clicked in precisely. Many try to push the drawer in without positioning the runner carriage exactly.

Exactly, being off by just one or two millimeters (about 0.04 or 0.08 inches) from the correct position can throw the closing mechanism out of alignment.
- My tip: First assemble all parts temporarily without screws, test the movement, and only then secure everything. This saves frustration and needing help from friends.
- Many underestimate how precise you need to be here, but with a bit of patience and a sense of humor, it usually works out fine.

It’s interesting how often the sourcing of materials is underestimated.
- Those who assume that all screws and anchors are perfectly included are mistaken. Sometimes small but essential parts are missing, or confusion arises when variations are used.
- Therefore, I recommend sorting and checking all components for completeness before assembly.
- This helps prevent having to stop in the middle of the process and assembling the structure incorrectly.

This is essential.
- Even better: Arrange the parts according to assembly stages. This way, nothing gets overlooked, mix-ups are avoided, and the assembly process runs smoothly.

A systematic approach and precise measurements are recommended here, even though it requires a lot of patience.
This statement confirms my suspicion. It seems that assembling the Ikea Besta demands more accuracy than one might initially expect.

What tools would you recommend to ensure this level of precision? Do you use corner clamps, metal squares, spirit levels, or special screwdrivers, for example?

Also, is there a specific sequence for inserting the dowels or screws that must be followed to ensure the furniture is structurally stable afterwards?
