Hello everyone, I am planning to convert my IKEA Besta system into a TV stand and am looking for tips and experiences on the best approach. My idea is to use the open compartments for devices, possibly add a back panel, and incorporate cable management. I am also interested in details like how to mount the TV on or within the Besta, and how to create surfaces that are both stable and visually appealing. Are there any special adjustments regarding measurements or modular options that I should consider? Thanks for your support!

You can remove the back panels to create more depth for appliances. For the TV, use a suitable wall mount that is attached to the wall behind the Besta unit. Cable management works well with cable channels or clips.

For converting IKEA Besta into a TV cabinet, I recommend the following points: - It is best to use the Besta frames without fronts to allow flexibility. - A stable back panel made of plywood or MDF should be installed behind the Besta to organize cables neatly and support loads. - The TV mount should preferably be attached to the wall behind the Besta, not directly to the furniture. - The modular dimensions of the Besta units are standardized; ideally, plan the device compartments to be 38-40 cm (15-16 inches) deep, depending on your equipment. - For a high-quality appearance, use matching panels or covers from IKEA or custom-made elements.

If you remove the doors, you can improve the cooling of appliances. Use the Besta attachments to vary the height and adjust the appearance.

Hello RENMA, thank you for the advice. Are there practical reasons why the mount shouldn’t be attached directly to the Besta unit? I was considering reinforcing the back panel of the Besta for this purpose, but that seems quite complex. Is this due to stability or safety concerns?

Mounting the TV bracket on the wall is advisable for several reasons: - Furniture like Besta is not inherently designed to support heavy loads and could be damaged. - The stability of the wall is generally more reliable, especially with heavy TV sets. - The risk of tipping over or breaking through the back panel is avoided. Reinforcing the back panel is possible but requires precise planning and additional effort.
