Thanks for the advice. I bought the piece new, and according to the product description, it is lacquered, but in a way that the wood grain is still visible.

Would you still recommend using furniture polish, or is something else better? I want to avoid build-up from polish over time or the wood losing its natural character.

This is an important point. For painted wood, it’s best to choose care products very carefully, as the wrong polish can alter the surface.

Also, especially if the paint layer is thin, an overly aggressive polish can damage the protective coating.

I wonder why IKEA does not provide more detailed care instructions — in my opinion, that would be helpful to prevent user mistakes.

Perhaps you should opt for a pH-neutral soap solution for cleaning, followed by using a dry, microfibre cloth to gently remove dust and light dirt.
