Hello everyone, I recently bought an IKEA Hemnes piece of furniture made from solid pine wood and want to take proper care of it to keep it looking good for a long time. I’m unsure which maintenance products are best suited for this specific type of wood. Is it okay to use oils, waxes, or special wood care creams? Are there particular ingredients that should be avoided on Hemnes wood to prevent damage or discoloration? I would appreciate tips for effective and safe care, preferably with recommendations for specific products or instructions on how to apply them. Thanks in advance!

To maintain IKEA Hemnes wood with a lacquered surface, I recommend a method that preserves the protective layer’s integrity:

- Regular cleaning with a slightly damp microfiber cloth to remove dust or surface dirt.
- For heavier soiling, a mild, pH-neutral soap solution can be used, followed by thorough wiping with clean water.
- After cleaning, avoid using oil- or wax-based products, as these can cause lacquered surfaces to become dull or sticky.

If needed, use care products specifically designed for lacquered furniture that dry without leaving residues. These usually do not contain solvents or harsh chemicals.

Some products also have antistatic properties, which slow down re-soiling.

Always test the care product first on an inconspicuous area.

With this gentle approach, the lacquer layer remains intact and the wood retains its natural appearance over time.

That sounds interesting! Could you perhaps give a few examples or explain what to pay special attention to when using antistatic wood care products?

I would also like to know whether these products affect the wood’s breathability.

Thanks for all the contributions so far; they are very helpful in finding the right care method.
