Hello everyone, I am currently planning to get a new bookcase and am considering the well-known Billy models from IKEA. My main concern is that the bookcase must be particularly sturdy, as I want to store a large number of books, especially heavy ones. My question is: which BILLY models are specifically designed for heavy loads and offer sufficient stability without needing extensive reinforcements? Are there certain versions or accessories that have proven effective? I would appreciate any helpful information!

The good thing: With some maintenance and wall mounting, the shelf becomes really secure.

Absolutely, exactly! And hey, adding a few extra screws never hurt any shelf. 😉 So handle the shelf with care, especially when holding books.

One last tip: For especially heavy loads, it can be worthwhile to reinforce the floors with additional cross braces. Although IKEA does not offer official parts for this, you can easily find alternatives at a hardware store. This prevents sagging and extends the lifespan.

Thank you all for the valuable information! Now many things are clearer to me: I will primarily choose the 80cm (31.5 inches) wide model, definitely secure the shelf to the wall, and get suitable brackets to additionally support the shelves. Your input is very helpful in setting up the shelf in my space in the best and safest way.
