Hi IKEA friends,
Over the weekend, I went shopping at IKEA again with a friend. I had seen in a TV commercial that the shelves from the Expedit series were on sale. So, I jumped into the weekend rush full of families and couples. When I got to the item I wanted, it was only available in two colors: black and white. What now? Normally, the shelf I wanted costs 59.00 euros, but on sale, it was only 39.00 euros. I originally wanted one in birch, but they were all gone, and the same for walnut.
So I had to decide—either white or black, although I ruled out black because dust would probably show more. So white was the only option left, and I thought, since I had already driven 60 km (37 miles), I might as well take the Expedit shelf and save 20 euros.
Today, I’m going to assemble it and see how it fits with my other furniture. What do you do when you really want a piece of furniture, it’s on sale, but no longer available in the color you want? Take it anyway or leave it?

I think it really depends on whether the color absolutely has to be exactly as you imagined because otherwise it wouldn’t match the other furniture, or if you just decided on it in your head because you simply find it more attractive 😉 I would have bought it too. That’s generally how I am, whether it’s furniture or anything else. I might not get 100% what I originally wanted, but if I hadn’t taken it at all, I would have been even much unhappier!!!! 😀
Hello Malm-bett-schläfer,
The new white Expedit shelving unit fits in perfectly, and assembling it was really easy. First, connect the top section with one side panel, then install the shelves one by one, and finally attach the bottom section along with the second side panel.
Above all, the living room looks nice and tidy again, and the white color is very neutral. The new Expedit looks great.

Hi,
the same thing happened to me – on the day we went there, I wanted a white one for my craft room, and we had to take one with damaged packaging because it was one of the last ones left – there were still plenty of other colors available 😕 Three days later, when we wanted to get one in birch for our new lounge area at work, where the kitchen is also birch, there were lots of white ones but not a single birch one left – so we switched to a Billy shelf instead. Now I think a white one would have been nice too 🙁
The white one is in my craft room – it was really easy to assemble and is already in full use 😀
Best regards, Sann
