Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my new kitchen with Ikea Metod countertops and am wondering which colors work best with these surfaces. I know there are different finishes and colors in the Metod range, such as light wood effect, gray, or black. I am particularly interested in how to choose colors for the cabinet fronts, walls, and possibly backsplashes so that the overall look is harmonious while appearing modern and durable.

Are there tried-and-true color combinations or tips on which shades work best—especially if you want to keep design options flexible? It would be great if you could also comment on potential material contrasts and their impact.

Thanks in advance for your experiences and suggestions!

Dark fronts, such as anthracite or deep blue, go well with bright Metod countertops. Neutral options include shades of gray and white. For a wood-look, choose fronts in matte white or beige.

Hello Mladen,

your question is very well asked because the choice of color for the countertop is crucial for the room’s atmosphere. Ikea Metod offers several types of countertops, ranging from simple wood decor to stone look.

In general, I recommend pairing light wood countertops with cool colors—such as shades of gray or a soft blue—as this creates a fresh and modern feel.

Dark countertops, like black or anthracite, work very well with white or light gray cabinet fronts because the contrast is elegant and timeless.

Also, pay attention to the amount of natural light you have. Low light calls for lighter colors to keep the room feeling open.

If you like, I can also provide examples of how to adjust and combine these colors.

I understand the feeling of facing such a decision – it can be quite stressful at times. The important thing is that you feel comfortable in the space and that the colors have a positive impact on your mood.

I have light Metod countertops myself and chose accent wall colors that are not too strong, opting for a muted olive green. This creates a calm atmosphere without everything feeling too monotonous.

Sometimes it helps to bring samples home, if you can, to see how they look in natural light. Also keep in mind that especially for workspaces, light colors tend to enhance the feeling of cleanliness.

Simple white or gray fronts work very well with Metod wood-look panels. Matte gray fronts are also a good match. They bring a sense of calm to the overall look.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I’m looking at light wood finishes, specifically the “Bernstein” model. Can you share any experience with combining it with backsplash materials like glass or tiles? I’ve considered mixing front colors, maybe a warm gray combined with white, but I’m unsure if that works well with Bernstein.

Are there any key factors I should keep in mind when choosing materials to avoid disappointment? Ease of maintenance and appearance are both very important to me.

I appreciate any guidance.
