Hello community, I am currently planning a customized design for my IKEA Platsa cabinet and wondered if there are specific paints, films, or other materials that can be used to individually and permanently customize the individual modules or fronts. I am thinking of some kind of wrapping or coating that adheres well to the smooth surfaces of Platsa components without damaging the furniture surface. Does anyone know of suitable product types or have special recommendations on how I can visually modify my Platsa furniture without having to buy completely new doors? I look forward to concrete tips and experiences regarding changing the appearance using paints or films for Platsa.

There are special furniture films that adhere well to smooth surfaces. Look for films with strong adhesion and easy application. Painting is possible but should be done with a suitable primer.

Basically, both furniture films and special paints are suitable for customizing IKEA Platsa systems. For films, you should choose high-quality vinyl or PVC films specifically designed for furniture, as they are durable and washable. When painting, it is important to sand the surface thoroughly first and apply a suitable primer to ensure optimal adhesion and prevent damage. There are also films with wood or metal looks that can significantly change the appearance. A tip: it is best to use a squeegee to apply the film evenly and avoid air bubbles.

I use adhesive films for my flush doors myself. It is important that the surface is very clean and free of grease. If you do not want to paint, furniture films are a great solution and can also be removed later.

Exactly! I covered my Platsa with a light wood veneer film – it looks really classy and adds warmth to the place. Plus: No worries about brush marks or fingerprints, the films are really forgiving 😄.

You can do this easily with films. For paints, I recommend water-based acrylic paints. They are more environmentally friendly and work well on smooth surfaces—provided you prepare the surface properly.
