I bought a used old Billy bookshelf from the 1990s. Unfortunately, the screws needed for assembly are missing.
I’m looking for these screws (silver-colored) that have a hole in the middle, through which other screws (black) are inserted. The whole thing is then tightened from the outside using that IKEA Allen key. It looks something like this:

New Billy shelves no longer have these screws, but instead use plastic ones that don’t fit.
I already went to the IKEA store, but they don’t have the matching screws anymore.
An inquiry at IKEA headquarters didn’t help either—they just referred me back to the store.
What I’m trying now is to buy another old Billy bookshelf, dismantle it, and keep only the screws, but so far that hasn’t worked out.
Are these screws available outside of IKEA and what are they called?
Or does anyone have extra screws?
I’m willing to pay well.
Thanks and best regards
Mathildeffm

From the two overviews, you can choose the appropriate size and order the screws and nuts with the part numbers from your IKEA.
Greetings from Sachsenhausen.

Mathildeffm21 Mar 2013 17:59I’ll take a closer look at it shortly. So, I checked this on an existing shelf here, but unfortunately only had partial success.
I was able to identify the part with the hole, the “Nut Assembly Single.”
However, the screw shown on the product sheet is not the right one – the screw I have here is 56 mm (2.2 inches) long, and there isn’t one of that length on the sheet. Also, the thread on my screw goes all the way to the head, whereas on the product sheet it only extends halfway along the screw.
Do you have any ideas? Are there any workarounds? The bolts should be the critical parts; if I have those, then in theory I should be able to find some suitable screws at the hardware store, right?
Sorry if these questions seem silly, I’m not usually a DIY person.
By the way, the “Ikea Fitting Catalogue” page is great – I bookmarked it immediately, thanks a lot!

IKEA-Experte21 Mar 2013 21:10Hello,
You will definitely find a suitable screw at the hardware store. It doesn’t matter whether the thread is continuous, as long as it is long enough. If the hole is deep enough, the screw can also be a bit longer. Depending on how far the existing screw extends beyond the sleeve nut, a 50 mm (2 inch) long screw might also be sufficient.

assamerer22 Mar 2013 21:12I’ll check my basement this weekend; I still have some of those screws from an old Ikea cabinet down there. If I find them, I’ll upload a picture here – but it might be Sunday!
