Hello everyone,
I am planning to assemble my Billy shelf, but I am currently facing the challenge of finding the optimal order of assembly—especially regarding the combination of the side panels, shelves, and back panels.
The enclosed instructions do describe the sequence, but I find it a bit unclear and somewhat awkward, particularly if you want to assemble the shelf without using clamps. Is there perhaps a simpler method or a proven workflow that makes the assembly more efficient and stable?
I look forward to your tips and experiences, especially on how you handle the order of the individual components and whether a different approach has worked better.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful contributions! Especially the advice about placing it on its back and the correct sequence really helped me.
I will try it this way now:
- First, prepare the side panels
- Partially screw in screws/dowels
- Insert the shelves
- Then attach the back panel while it is on its back
- Only after that, stand the shelving unit upright and tighten all screws
If I encounter any problems, I will get back to you.

Update from me: I assembled it yesterday following your tips. Mounted the back panel while lying on my back, prepared the side panels and shelves beforehand. It was actually easier and more stable than I expected.
Thank you very much for the detailed explanations and motivation! 🙂
