Hello everyone, I am currently assembling my new IKEA Hemnes wardrobe and want to make sure I pay special attention to the important assembly steps to avoid mistakes. Which assembly steps for the IKEA Hemnes are particularly crucial and should be carefully followed to ensure the furniture is stable and free from damage later on? Are there any tips on how to avoid common pitfalls? It would be great if you could share your experiences, preferably with notes on critical work stages or advice regarding the assembly materials.
In addition to wall mounting, I would like to highlight the importance of back panel stabilization. The back panel provides lateral stability to the cabinet and must not be warped or damaged. Especially with Hemnes, this back panel is made of thin material and can easily deform.
Aligning the doors and checking the hinges are also important for the final fit. Damaged or improperly installed hinges can quickly cause functional issues.
My tip: Use a spirit level to help align the cabinet and take advantage of the integrated adjustment options of the hinges for fine-tuning.

My tip: Use a spirit level to help align the cabinet and take advantage of the built-in hinge adjustments for fine-tuning.Absolutely right, the spirit level is an underrated tool when assembling cabinets. It also allows you to check if the back panel is sitting flush. Even small unevenness in the floor can cause noticeable leaning in the final result.
Another tip: First, lightly tighten all connections. Only once everything fits properly should you fully tighten the screws. This helps prevent crooked assemblies.
I just want to share a more relaxed conclusion: The Hemnes is great to assemble, as long as you don’t tighten the screws too much the first time. Otherwise, the wooden parts can give you trouble.
And hey, wall anchoring is not only mandatory but also smart. Your wardrobe will then stand firm like a rock and won’t shift when you slam the door.
A small tip at the end: Take two short breaks instead of one long one. That way, you can check if you’re still working straight or if a screw is going in crooked.

Better to take two short breaks than one long one. That’s really good advice, thanks! Assembly can be quite exhausting, especially when you focus on precise work.
Are there any parts where the construction can be safely sped up without compromising stability? Maybe smaller fastening steps that aren’t so critical?
There are some assembly steps that are less critical, such as installing interior floors or assembling drawers. While these still require care, they generally do not affect the overall stability.
It is a different matter with load-bearing structures and the back panel—no shortcuts should be taken here! Also, when attaching to the wall, it is important to follow the instructions strictly.
In general, you can say: first assemble the major components temporarily to check everything, then tighten them securely and carry out the finishing touches.

One point I would like to add: The pre-drilled holes in Hemnes are usually prefabricated and standardized. However, caution is still necessary – if you are unsure, do not use your own drill to make new holes without instructions.
Conversely, this means you need to pay close attention to aligning the side panels and cover plates correctly to make use of the existing holes. This ensures a secure connection in the end.
It is also advisable to initially tighten the screws by hand before using a power tool, in order to test the load.
