Hello everyone,

I am about to assemble my first IKEA Hemnes wardrobe myself and am looking for helpful tips to make the assembly as smooth and efficient as possible. What experiences have you had specifically with putting together the Hemnes? Are there common pitfalls to watch out for? I would appreciate advice on preparation, the necessary tools, and perhaps some small tricks for assembly that go beyond the basic instructions.

Thank you in advance!

In my experience, glue is mostly unnecessary. If all screws are properly and carefully tightened, the furniture will remain stable for a long time.

I have started to organize my previous experiences with assembling the Hemnes well. Thank you for the tips on tools and sorting.

One final question: How do you handle wall mounting? The wardrobe is quite tall and not tightly wedged in the room – are there any special recommendations or tricks, especially for older walls?

I would appreciate your practical and safety advice.

Wall mounting is usually mandatory for HEMNES units to prevent tipping. Make sure to use appropriate anchors and screws for your wall type (concrete, drywall, brick).

Tip: For drywall, always use special cavity anchors and check for electrical wires or pipes in the area before drilling.

If uncertain, preparing the drill holes with a detector can be helpful.

The mounting hardware included by IKEA is designed for standard walls; often, better results are achieved with anchors and screws tailored to your specific wall type, available at hardware stores.

For wall mounting: I recommend doing it as a team. One person holds, while the other screws.

If that’s not possible, you can attach the mounting brackets beforehand and then carefully place the cabinet. No need to worry about the wall – with the right preparation, it will go smoothly.
