Hello everyone,

I am about to assemble my first IKEA Hemnes wardrobe myself and am looking for helpful tips to make the assembly as smooth and efficient as possible. What experiences have you had specifically with putting together the Hemnes? Are there common pitfalls to watch out for? I would appreciate advice on preparation, the necessary tools, and perhaps some small tricks for assembly that go beyond the basic instructions.

Thank you in advance!

In any case, do not fully tighten the screws and fasteners at the same time.

First, assemble everything loosely, align all parts, and only tighten everything at the end. This makes handling much easier.

It’s best to first sort all the parts and check that nothing is missing.

Thanks in advance! How would you recommend checking the delivery contents? Is it enough to compare the parts with the manual, or do you have a more efficient method?

It’s also important to place the piece of furniture as close as possible to its final location

That’s a good tip, thanks! It does seem a bit bulky to me once it’s assembled.

Is there a specific place to keep screws while working to avoid losing them?

To check the parts, I recommend a systematic approach: use the parts list at the very beginning of the manual as a guide and tick off each item after multiple checks. A flat container, such as a tray or shallow dishes, is well suited for sorting and separating screws and small components. This significantly reduces the risk of loss.

Additionally, inspect each part for damage; this can be especially important for wooden components.

A small magnetic pickup tool for screws or a small container from around the house work well. This way, nothing falls down and you can keep track of everything.

A tip about tools: use a Phillips screwdriver with a good grip or, even better, a cordless drill with torque control. This protects the screws and the wood.

Also, a rubber mallet is helpful when parts don’t fit exactly, as it prevents damage to the wood.

Definitely do not tighten the screws and fasteners fully all at once.

That sounds reasonable. Could you briefly explain why this method is recommended and what consequences might occur if it is ignored?

Are there any other specific behaviors of the fasteners or the timber that one should be aware of?
