Hello everyone,
I have an IKEA Malm bed that has been occasionally squeaking when lying down or moving for some time. I have already checked and tightened all screws and connections several times, which usually helps with this kind of issue, but the squeaking persists.
Now I’m wondering what the next step should be to permanently fix this annoying noise. Does anyone know specific weak points in the Malm frame to watch out for, or are there proven techniques to eliminate this squeaking?
I would appreciate concrete tips, including recommendations for tools or materials that might be helpful.

I’m happy to provide a brief guide on how to systematically address squeaking:
1. Identify the noise source: Have someone gently rock the bed while you try to pinpoint where the sound is coming from.
2. Loosen the screws: Slightly loosen all connections, but do not remove them completely.
3. Cleaning: Remove dust and debris from the contact surfaces.
4. Surface treatment: Use a dry cloth, and if necessary, fine sandpaper or wood wax before reassembling.
5. Re-tighten screws: Tighten the screws firmly, but not excessively, as overtightening can damage the wood.
Also, make sure the slatted frame is properly seated and there are no loose parts.
A common mistake is overtightening screws, which can also cause noises.

A common mistake is overtightening screws\ Thanks, I agree with that. I had tightened the screws several times very firmly, hoping that would stop the squeaking. But as you say, that might actually make the problem worse. What I’m still curious about: What’s the best way to access the joints? Do I need to completely disassemble the bed, or is it enough to loosen only certain connections?

How can you best access the connection points? Usually, it's just the top or bottom part. Simply loosen these connections, clean them, possibly treat them with wax, and then reattach.holger37 schrieb:
How can you best access the connection points? Depending on how your bed is assembled, the headboard or footboard can often be removed quite easily. It is important to carefully check the fit afterward and avoid over-tightening any screws.Another suggestion: Also check the condition of the fasteners, such as wooden or metal dowels, as these can become loose or damaged over time.
