Hello everyone,

I have an IKEA Malm bed that has been occasionally squeaking when lying down or moving for some time. I have already checked and tightened all screws and connections several times, which usually helps with this kind of issue, but the squeaking persists.

Now I’m wondering what the next step should be to permanently fix this annoying noise. Does anyone know specific weak points in the Malm frame to watch out for, or are there proven techniques to eliminate this squeaking?

I would appreciate concrete tips, including recommendations for tools or materials that might be helpful.

I believe that in such cases, it’s important to remain patient and not get frustrated. Sometimes, very small parts cause the problem, and a minor adjustment (like felt strips or a new slatted frame) can make a big difference.

Just take a calm and patient look, as this creates clarity and helps you finally get rid of the squeaking. 🙂

Good morning! Yesterday, I checked my Malm bed again myself – I can confirm that applying a preventive layer of special furniture wax to the joints noticeably improves things!

It’s best to apply small amounts with a cotton swab or brush and then carefully tighten all the screws. And don’t forget: enjoy the result 🙂

One small tip regarding lubricants: Avoid oil or silicone, as they can damage the wood or leave stains. Furniture wax or graphite powder are gentler and better suited for wood.

About the screws: If you have many different lengths and types, make sure to keep everything original to maintain proper fit.

I would like to add that the tension of the mattress can also have an impact. If it is too soft or sags significantly, this can lead to increased stress on the joints and cause squeaking noises.

Therefore, carefully check the mattress topper and the position of the slatted frame as well.
