Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to identify a specific cause because the squeaking can be heard in different areas – from the slatted bed bases to the bed frame. My question is: How can I effectively eliminate these squeaking noises on the Malm bed? Are there any proven methods or special maintenance techniques that can help? I have considered tightening the screws or lubricating the contact points, but what approach is truly effective without damaging the furniture? Thanks in advance for your helpful tips!
Hey Fritz_meo, I know that all too well! That annoying squeaking from the Malm bed is really frustrating, but don’t worry, it’s easy to fix! :-) The most important thing is to start by tightening all the screws properly – they often loosen over time and cause friction. After that, I treated the contact points with furniture wax, which really reduces the noise even more! Give it a try, it’s really great! 😄
For effectively eliminating squeaking noises on the Malm bed, I recommend the following structured approach: 1. Tighten all visible screws and connections using appropriate tools to minimize any looseness. 2. Apply a lubricant suitable for contact points between wood and metal, such as silicone spray or dry graphite powder instead of oil, to avoid staining. 3. Inspect the slatted bed base and, if needed, add felt or rubber pads at contact points. 4. Check whether any wooden parts have swollen due to moisture, as this can cause additional tension. Avoid using oils on wooden surfaces to prevent warping issues.

Fritz_meo29 Mar 2021 18:56Thank you for the tips so far! @draleo, thanks for the advice about using silicone spray instead of oil; that sounds reasonable to avoid stains. How exactly should I go about this if I use silicone spray, for example? Do I need to partially disassemble the bed for that? And how often should such a product be reapplied afterwards? I just checked again, and all the screws are still fairly tight.
