Hello everyone, I am very interested to hear about the specific assembly issues you have most frequently encountered with the Ikea Hemnes furniture. This series is often mentioned in connection with various difficulties, but what exactly about the instructions, parts, or assembly process causes the most challenges for users? Especially when trying to work as accurately and efficiently as possible, it would be helpful to know what to pay special attention to in order to avoid common problems. Perhaps you could also briefly describe how you resolved these issues or if you used any special tools or tricks. Thanks in advance for sharing your experiences!

A note on screw quality: For some versions of the Hemnes series, I had to use replacement screws because the original screws provided were sometimes of poor quality, which can affect durability and stability. It is worthwhile to mechanically check the screws before assembly (e.g., thread engagement) and, if necessary, use better or longer ones. Using a torque wrench can also help prevent over-tightening. Additionally, I recommend inserting all screws and connectors into the intended holes beforehand to ensure they fit smoothly and the parts align precisely.

Honestly, I find that a bit surprising, as I’m used to a different level of quality from IKEA screws. Have you experienced whether this was an isolated case or if it happened more frequently? Since I already have some ideas for replacements, I’d like to minimize the risk. Are there specific sources or screw types you have preferred?

I can confirm the issue with the screws, although it is not a common problem, but rather occurs occasionally. What happens more frequently is the challenge of correctly sorting the many small parts. The assembly instructions are usually very good, but identifying the fittings and following the recommended sequence is essential to ensure the cabinet is stable afterward. Additionally, it is important to check and tighten all screws again after assembly, as some can loosen during use. Another tip: attach felt pads under the feet to protect not only the floors but also the cabinets themselves.

I would also like to emphasize the importance of careful sorting and proper handling of the wooden dowels when assembling HEMNES. The dowels should never be forced in, as the wood of the panels is relatively soft and can easily split under too much pressure. Additionally, using glue is often unnecessary since the construction is designed to rely solely on the dowels and screws. If you want to improve stability, use only a small amount of wood glue and always remove any excess immediately to avoid damaging the visible wood surfaces. Also, make sure the cabinet is level—an uneven floor can quickly cause wobbling and may later put stress on the structure.

I have noticed that assembling the HEMNES series often involves difficulties with door hinge adjustments. Although the doors usually appear installed correctly at first glance, fine-tuning—especially concerning the gap and flush alignment—proves to be prone to errors. A poorly adjusted hinge can cause increased stress on the fixing points over time, which, particularly with thinner wooden parts, can quickly lead to material fatigue or even breakage. My advice: be patient during the adjustment process and use a spirit level to ensure precise alignment.

Really interesting discussion here! 🙂 I also had my initial doubts when assembling the HEMNES parts, but with a bit of patience and help, everything worked out well! My favorite tip was to sort all the screws and dowels in advance and stick to a clear schedule to avoid getting rushed. Just take it step by step and make sure to carefully read the instructions again in between! 🙂 I also think the most important thing is not to get discouraged – every beginner struggles with these small issues, but the feeling when the wardrobe is finally assembled is truly priceless!
