Hello everyone, I am currently assembling my new IKEA Hemnes wardrobe and want to make sure I pay special attention to the important assembly steps to avoid mistakes. Which assembly steps for the IKEA Hemnes are particularly crucial and should be carefully followed to ensure the furniture is stable and free from damage later on? Are there any tips on how to avoid common pitfalls? It would be great if you could share your experiences, preferably with notes on critical work stages or advice regarding the assembly materials.

Hello lilapra, your question is very well formulated and shows good depth. When assembling the IKEA Hemnes wardrobe, there are several key steps that I recommend you perform carefully:

- Preparation: Unpack all parts and check for completeness, as well as sort the fittings according to the instructions.

- Attach the back panel: This is essential for stability. Especially with Hemnes, the thin back panel can be easily damaged, so handle it carefully and align it precisely.

- Join the side and back panels: It is important to tighten all screws lightly at first before fully securing them. This helps avoid misalignment.

- Door fittings: The hinges should be installed accurately so the doors close properly afterward.

- Check stability: Finally, be sure to secure the wardrobe to the wall – IKEA places great emphasis on safety here.

Common mistakes include overtightening screws and inaccuracies during alignment. I recommend tightening each screw gently and checking the fit after each step.

The installation of the back panel is the most important step, followed by the correct door installation. Do not forget wall mounting.

I would also add that with the Hemnes system, it is especially important to pay attention to the order of the parts. In particular, the connection between the side panels and the top cover panel is critical. If the angle is not exactly right here, the back panel will no longer fit correctly later on.

Also:
- Take your time when inserting the wooden dowels. They often fit quite tightly, and inserting them too quickly can cause splitting.
- The metal fittings must fit precisely into the designated drill holes. Twisting them can lead to instability.
- Ideally, use a cordless screwdriver with low speed and torque limitation to avoid deforming the wooden parts.

Regarding wall mounting: Can you specify what kind of wall surface the cabinet will be placed against? For drywall, you need different anchors than for solid masonry.

Regarding the wall mounting: Can you tell me what type of wall substrate the cabinet will be placed on?

Thanks for the note. The wall is a standard concrete wall, so a solid material. Should I just use the included wall plugs, or would you recommend any special mounting hardware?

For a concrete wall, the supplied anchors are usually sufficient. However, I recommend testing the anchors before drilling to ensure they fit securely. Also, make sure to use anchors that exactly match the size specified by the manufacturer. Otherwise, the cabinet may become loose over time.

If you want to be extra cautious, you can choose nylon anchors with a slightly larger diameter, as long as they fit into the drilled hole. It is also important not to overtighten the screws when securing them, to avoid damaging the threads.
