Hello everyone,
I chose the Metod cabinet fronts with glass panels for my new kitchen from Ikea. Unfortunately, I’ve noticed that fingerprints and water spots show up very quickly on the glass surfaces, and cleaning them is not that easy, especially without leaving streaks behind.
I would like to know which cleaning products and methods have proven effective for getting the glass fronts clean quickly and streak-free, without damaging the surfaces. Do you use special cloths or tricks? I have already tried quite a few things, from glass cleaner to vinegar water, but I’m still not fully satisfied.
I would be very grateful for any tips and shared experiences!

It is also important to me that cleaning does not take too much time.I completely understand that. To save time while still achieving a streak-free result, I try the following:
- Use two microfiber cloths: one for dampening/cleaning and one for immediate dry polishing.
- Keep the cloths damp but not soaking wet, and wipe an area evenly, then immediately go over it once with the second cloth.
- If you end up with dripping wet spots, it’s better to dry them right away with a dry cloth.
Also: fingerprints and smudges can be easily prevented with a simple trick. When cooking or using the kitchen, only touch the fronts with clean hands or occasionally wipe them with a dry microfiber cloth instead of doing a full wet cleaning each time.
Do you clean daily or only when the fronts are visibly dirty?
I’m really annoyed by the greasy fronts too, ever since I switched to Metod with glass.
I’ve learned not to clean too much because it stresses me out when I constantly see the fronts and have to clean them.
Try this approach: right after using the kitchen, wipe them with a dry microfiber cloth. That way they look okay and it only takes a few seconds. If you don’t have to be perfect, it really helps mentally and makes the routine more relaxed.
I think it’s important that cleaning doesn’t become a mental burden. These fronts are made for everyday use, so a few fingerprints now and then are okay.
How do you deal with heavier stains? Just with glass cleaner, or do you sometimes use dish soap? Do you have the same problem?

Just using glass cleaner or sometimes with dish soap? For heavier dirt, I like to use lukewarm water with a little mild dish soap and a soft sponge or microfiber cloth. Afterwards, always wipe thoroughly with clean water to avoid leaving any residue that could cause streaks.
I completely avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals, as they can quickly damage the glass surface.
If you’re in a hurry, apply some glass cleaner to a dry cloth, spread it evenly, and then polish dry. This method is safe and effective.
