Hello everyone,

A few months ago, I bought and assembled Platsa cabinets from IKEA. Now I notice that some cabinet doors don’t close flush; they slightly swing open and sometimes even open by themselves or “wobble.” It seems like they are not properly seated in the hinges or have loosened, but I’m not sure what exactly is causing this.

I have already tried adjusting the hinges according to the instructions, but the issue remains. I’m wondering if this could be a manufacturing defect, warped doors, or if they simply need readjusting over time.

Has anyone experienced the same problem and can offer advice on how to fix it long term? I’m especially interested in tips for optimal adjustment, possible replacement parts, or common issues with PLATSA doors. Thanks in advance!

Misalignment often results from incorrectly adjusted hinges. Check that all the screws on the hinges are tight and adjust the door following the instructions using a screwdriver. Sometimes it also helps to temporarily remove the door and reattach it.

The door misalignment in PLATSA can have several causes. First of all, it is crucial to check whether the doors rest evenly and flush against the carcass. Small installation errors or warped doors due to moisture could cause the doors to not sit securely.

I recommend the following procedure:

- Completely check all hinge screws, including the attachments to both the carcass and the door itself.
- Verify that the hinges are properly engaged, as they can sometimes loosen under stress.
- Adjust the three hinge adjustment screws:
- Vertical adjustment (move the door up and down)
- Horizontal adjustment (shift the door sideways)
- Depth adjustment (move the door closer to or further from the carcass)
- If the door is warped, it may need to be replaced or carefully heated to make minimal adjustments, though this is rarely advisable.

Additionally, sometimes the panel type beneath the surface is not perfectly flat, which can lead to warping over time. Did you notice any visible irregularities during assembly? How stable is your carcass? Are the shelves and back panels properly installed?

Details like the base also play a crucial role. For example, if the cabinet is not standing perfectly level, other forces act on the doors that can cause misalignment. Have you checked this?

Thank you for your detailed response. Yes, I noticed a slight unevenness in the flatness of the back panel during assembly (it’s made of thin plywood). The cabinet stands relatively stable; I haven’t noticed any wobbling.

I just checked the hinges again—the mounting screws are tight—but I didn’t see any screws for adjusting the horizontal alignment. Do you know which ones are used for that? Usually, when I adjust the common screws, the door only moves forward and backward or up and down.

Sometimes my doors open slightly with a light touch, although the magnetic catch seems to be correctly positioned.

Do you think it would help to replace the magnets with stronger ones, or would that be the wrong approach?

The PLATSA hinges typically have three adjustable screws:

- One for vertical positioning,
- one for horizontal adjustment (usually the side screw closer to the hinge plate),
- and one for depth adjustment,

which allows the door to be set closer to or further away from the cabinet frame.

If the door still swings despite tightened screws, the connection between the hinge and the door might be affected by wear or poor fit.

Regarding the magnetic catch: These are not designed to provide permanent stability against swinging but only to keep the door closed. Replacing them with stronger magnets might help the door close more securely but will not solve the root cause of the problem.

I recommend first readjusting the screws on the hinges, paying special attention to the horizontal adjustment. However, if the doors are warped, this will only partially help.

That sounds reasonable. I will first try to adjust the hinges more precisely.

Can someone tell me if the screws for horizontal adjustment on the PLATSA hinges are generally easy to access, or if the door needs to be removed for this? I ask because I don’t want to take the door off completely and risk losing its alignment.

Is there a recommended order for tightening the screws to correct misalignment? Thanks!
