I have a room that I want to convert into a bathroom. I’ve already experimented a bit with arranging the sanitary fixtures in a 3D program. I’m usually very uncreative with this kind of stuff. Maybe you have some ideas?
I tried using a T-wall to position the bathtub more in the middle of the room, which would create good space for some storage. But then the access to the toilet becomes quite narrow. Another option could be to place the bathtub by the window in the left corner and put the washbasin in front of the T-wall.

General requirements for the bathroom:
  • Large walk-in shower without glass
  • Bathtub with a view of the window
  • Bathtub positioned so it doesn’t face the toilet
  • Longer washbasin (not 100% fixed, at least 80cm (30 inches), preferably more for double sinks)
  • Corner bathtub or, if straight, with larger shelves around it (for decoration / candles)
  • Space for one shelf for towels (lowboard or tall shelf doesn’t matter)

Do you have any great ideas? Things to consider?
Is it a bad idea to put a walk-in shower in front of a floor-to-ceiling window?
Of course, privacy would need to be ensured. Otherwise, I think the idea of natural light in the shower is quite nice. Does anyone have something like this and can share their experience?

I don’t see why he would need two sinks at 16 years old.
Did I miss something? Is the bathroom only for the son?

No, but we are among those who use their bathrooms alternately, not at the same time.
If my 16-year-old son suddenly wants to use the bathroom with me, I’ll take him to a therapist. 😀

Edit:
Actually, I should explain further—there are precise rules about who uses the bathroom and when.
Shower: 2 adults at the same time.
Sink: 1 adult or 1 child at a time, never simultaneously. Toilet can be used concurrently (only for small visits).
Bathtub: 1 adult, no simultaneous use of other sanitary fixtures allowed. Bringing tea is fine.

Um… we only know what you’ve shared. So please don’t get annoyed—you asked here and you’re getting answers.

Aha! And the three- or five-year-old does the same?!

No one is saying that!
Honestly, I’m starting to get the feeling that brainstorming in a forum is more exhausting than helpful for you.

You really don’t need that at home, but other things can be kept handy or just be nice decoration.

Not the toiletry bag, but as you also point out, for example, the woman’s makeup case. Towels, cream jars… nothing is worse than a glass jar falling into the sink.

There are wall mounts for hairdryers.

Yes, and for toothbrushes too. And so on and so forth. You don’t really need a shelf at all, since you can put everything in holders. A nice thought 😉

I’m afraid we just don’t share the same sense of humor.

Anyway. Long story short: I’m not too worried about narrow pathways, but I have taken note of the comment.
I think there is definitely enough space for one or two sinks, although realistically we wouldn’t need two, even looking ahead.

We tend to keep surfaces in the bathroom quite clear. It’s meant to be a relaxing space. I like wood a lot, and I find long wooden vanities with vessel sinks very stylish. We are aware of the practicality issues with vessel sinks—we already have one and would choose one again.

In my ideal “wish list” bathroom, I would have a shower with two faucets and a small seat. A long vanity where a vase or decorations can be placed. At the moment, our bathtub is positioned somewhat diagonally in the corner, which I really like because there’s plenty of space around it to put things. That wouldn’t necessarily be the case in the new house.
I could also imagine placing the tub directly in front of the (then no longer floor-to-ceiling) window and having the entire surface in front and behind as shelving or ledges.

Actually, a 120 euro (dollar) perfume bottle or—super annoying—the nail polish is even worse.

I do hope that was written with humor, because in life the occasional "guideline" breaker does appear out of nowhere... and not only at Christmas 😎
