That would be really practical in my current situation. My kitchen only has space for a 2.60 m (8.5 ft) run. If I install a full-sized dishwasher there, I lose storage space that I will probably miss later as a beginner hobby cook. I’ve now seen that some large German online retailers do offer countertop dishwashers. The device could also fit under the sink in the cabinet.
I think it’s a pity that IKEA doesn’t provide solutions for singles, especially since IKEA is known for “smart solutions for small spaces.” When it comes to kitchens, they don’t quite deliver on that.
Just had to get that off my chest, without complaining about the cabinets. It will definitely be an IKEA kitchen. Fact is, factastic.
Best regards from Hamburg

fotokatze30 Apr 2012 07:17Hello Pearl from Hamburg!
I think the following might help you. I’ve implemented a space-saving solution with a “special” built-in modular dishwasher from Siemens and a Siemens microwave/oven stacked on top of each other.
Our friends are always amazed at how easy and convenient loading the dishwasher can be...
The dishwasher is perfect for our 2-person household but does require more maintenance. It needs considerably more attention, like cleaning the filter, because it’s significantly smaller.
A similar model is also available from SMEG STC75. I used a Faktum tall cabinet with two drawers at the bottom.
Then (going upwards) the dishwasher (60cm (24 inches) high), then the microwave/oven (45cm (18 inches) high), and above that, there’s a compartment with a front panel attached using hinges from the hardware store so that it folds upwards. In the photo above, the dimensions aren’t accurate because the dishwasher is 60cm (24 inches) high, which is 15cm (6 inches) taller than the lower oven shown. This means the door won’t fit properly at the top, etc. So some adjustments at the top are necessary. However, that wasn’t a big problem and any IKEA fan can manage it easily. You could also shorten the upper door by 15cm (6 inches), but we had limited “air space” in the kitchen, and it seemed more practical for the door to fold upwards. It has proven to work well. Even though the “upper” oven ends up installed 15cm (6 inches) higher than usual, it’s still just about usable for me at 165cm (5 ft 5 in) tall, meaning I can still reach and load it. But for true “hobbits” under 160cm (5 ft 3 in), the height of the upper oven will probably be borderline in terms of usability. Everyone has to decide and figure that out for themselves.

PerleHamburg13 May 2012 17:20Hello Fotokatze,
thank you for your reply and your advice. The problem with my kitchen is that I cannot use urgently needed countertop space because of a tall cabinet. If I remove the sink and the ceramic cooktop, I only have about 1.5 meters (5 feet) of workspace left, which is already too little for me. I will see if I can get a used slimline dishwasher after buying the kitchen, which I could place under the sink. Still, thank you. Maybe someone else has been helped.
