ᐅ How to assemble a 40 cm Ikea Faktum base cabinet with a pull-out drawer?

fazer15Hello everyone,
we are currently assembling our first IKEA kitchen and so far we are quite satisfied. Only the assembly of the Faktum 40cm (16 inch) base cabinet with drawer and pull-out is causing us some difficulties. The included door front (Abstrakt white) only has holes for standard door hinges. Neither the cabinet assembly instructions nor the ones for the Rationell drawers show how to attach the front. Unfortunately, a call to the IKEA Service Center was not helpful this time, as they only referred me to the online assembly guide. Either I’m missing something or there actually isn’t one for the cabinet with a pull-out.
How do I attach the front?
Also, I’m curious how you have mounted your wall cabinets. Just with screws? My old kitchen had “hooks” that hung on a rail…
Regards,
Andrea

Hello,
My response is a bit late, but maybe it will still help others looking for assistance.
As Brotos already mentioned, a template is needed. It is made of paper and unfortunately, it is neither included with the door nor the drawer, and there is no indication of it anywhere (except online). I would say most IKEA employees, at least at the Frankfurt store, are not aware of this either.
Unfortunately, it’s not just the template, but also additional parts required to assemble the front doors like Applad or Hälvig with a Rationell drawer system. These doors are originally designed only for installation with hinges and must be modified to be used as drawer fronts with the Rationell system. (An extended instruction for Rationell can be found online for this.)
Here are the additional parts. These can be obtained from IKEA customer service upon request.
1. Template (for right and left) IKEA Ident AA-297701-1
2. Two round plastic inserts per door to be inserted into the hinge holes, IKEA Ident 117571, where one insert is only a cover (top). Included are also small pins to be inserted into the small screw holes next to the large hinge holes.
3. Screws IKEA Ident 109598. These are used to attach the two plastic brackets (which will later be inserted at the front of the Rationell drawer) to the door panel into the holes that need to be made.
4. Two parts IKEA Ident 117570 with screws IKEA Ident 109535. These two small round parts are screwed into the holes made using the template instead of the round plugs included in the Rationell package. They hold the round rods on the right and left sides of the Rationell drawer.
Procedure:
Insert the grey round plastic inserts into the holes of the hinges on the door front. If they are tight, gently press or tap them in flat using a piece of wood.
Then place the paper template at the bottom right and bottom left of the door and use a center punch, nail drill bit, or an awl to precisely transfer the three holes from the template onto the door. One hole will line up exactly with the round plastic insert’s groove. Because of this, that hole cannot be precisely marked, but that is not a problem since the groove provides enough guidance when screwing in.
Next, carefully enlarge the pre-marked points on the door front with a drill, e.g., 2mm (about 1/16 inch). Be careful not to drill deeply—only about 5mm (about 3/16 inch) deep so the screws can be inserted more easily.
Then screw in the two vertical brackets (part no. 117552) on the right and left sides. As mentioned, one of the screws will go into the groove of the round plastic inserts. Tighten the screws well.
Finally, screw in the small round parts, part no. 117570.
With this, the doors are prepared to fit and connect with the Rationell drawer system as intended and as shown in IKEA’s catalogs.
By the way: the missing parts mentioned above are contained in a completely different package that customers usually do not need. This is something you first have to know, and IKEA staff should inform customers about this unusual logic (which I would actually call illogical). At least at the, in my opinion, generally customer-unfriendly Frankfurt Nieder-Eschbach store, “no” employee except one woman in customer service knew this. I only found out after my fifth visit asking in person at IKEA. Honestly, it’s scandalous. But this might only apply to the Frankfurt store.
Good luck with the assembly

hagbard_237 Jan 2011 09:21I received a small bag containing all the - very useful and absolutely necessary - parts along with the equally necessary drilling template, placed at the front of the middle drawer: Rationell 401.300.90.
Greetings and thanks for the instructions, Joe! I was a bit confused yesterday until I finally found the accessories. I thought they had delivered the wrong doors to me.

Is it normal for this base cabinet drawer (in our case, the FAKTUM base cabinet with wire baskets) to close with quite a bit of force? It feels as if a strong magnet is pulling it shut. For me, you push it in up to a certain point, and then it almost snaps closed on its own. When it hits the cabinet, it even causes nearby cabinets to shake briefly, and if there are utensils inside the drawer, you can hear them rattling very clearly.
Is this the case for everyone? Or did we install something incorrectly? Or could something be defective? Does anyone know this problem?
