Hello everyone,

Thanks to a Google search, I found this forum and have already read some very interesting posts.

We are currently putting together our first IKEA kitchen. Style: white with Bodbyn fronts.

Using the IKEA 3D planner and their “kitchen experts,” we have made good progress with the design, and now we are working on the “fine tuning.” Except for the refrigerator (HÄFTIGT), we would like to choose high-quality built-in appliances for our new kitchen from brands like Bosch, AEG, Neff, etc.

At the moment, I am looking for a new dishwasher... I have found many discussions on this forum, but none matched my “requirements,” or maybe I missed a suitable thread.

I hope you can help me... for our open kitchen, I am looking for a “very quiet” dishwasher with a flexible hinge (Vario hinge).

Unfortunately, most models start at around 43 dB... I’m not sure if this might be too loud... maybe you could share your experiences.

Currently, we have the semi-integrated Bosch SMI68M85EU SuperSilence with a rated noise level of 42 dB... which should theoretically be completely adequate since it really does run very quietly.

Thank you for your help.

Best regards

EDIT: I have changed the thread title, as it is no longer just about the dishwasher.

I have shared my opinion on the Faktum version of the "corner cabinet unit" for the long corner cabinet. The new version is designed somewhat differently, but some of the same points still apply. Of course, you would only consider my DIY approach if the kitchen is very small and every bit of space is needed.

Cool!

If no DIY work is desired, the corner cabinet can still be used for the sink, and shortened shelves can be placed in the "dark corner" to store infrequently used items. This way, the corner wouldn’t be wasted, but only a hinged door under the sink would be possible, no pull-out drawers (since one side panel is "missing").

Take a look ... I made some modifications.

Kitchen unit with white cabinets, wooden countertop, sink and window

- Removed the corner
- Swapped the 80cm (31.5 inches) base cabinet for the sink with the dishwasher
- Water connections will be adjusted accordingly

Under the sink, I would like to install the VARIERA / Utrusta bins, so that I almost have a base cabinet with a waste sorting system, even though it’s not directly under the countertop where food prep happens.

On both sides of the corner, I added 50mm (2 inches) filler strips.

Any suggestions?

Currently, in the middle it looks like this ... I was able to install two 80cm (31.5 inches) cabinets and also a 20cm (8 inches) drawer unit for oils and such.

There is guaranteed space for an 80cm (31.5 inches) induction cooktop and a head-free range hood...

The other corner now looks like this:

Following advice from an IKEA expert, I removed the corner and created room for a 60cm (24 inches) and a 40cm (16 inches) cabinet. On the right, in the dead corner, I don’t actually lose much space; it’s only about 35cm (14 inches) deep. The other side is similar, since the two 60cm (24 inches) cabinets have a depth of 37cm (15 inches). I would have liked to have 60cm (24 inches) cabinets there as well, but they would extend too far into the room and would feel a bit too cramped in my opinion.

There, too, I added 50mm (2 inches) filler strips on each side of both corners.

Any suggestions?

Good luck

Just a quick tip regarding the IKEA planner:

Under Kitchen/Built-in Kitchens/Countertops/Corner Countertops,

there are templates for dead corners, so you don’t have to create the 5cm (2 inch) panels manually, and you won’t end up with a hole in the countertop.

By the way, the trash bins under the sink are not comparable to base cabinets with waste sorting systems.
I used to have the bins under the sink, but since I started reading the kitchen forum, I installed the trash bins in a 50cm (20 inch) cabinet with a top drawer.
The big advantage is that you can easily slide food scraps from the countertop directly into the bin without having to pick them up again.
If you want a proper base cabinet with a waste sorting system, I would suggest removing the 20cm (8 inch) pull-out cabinet on the stove side (I find IKEA’s version too unstable) and replacing the 80cm (32 inch) cabinet with a 60cm (24 inch) cabinet. That way you’ll still have room for a 40cm (16 inch) base cabinet with a waste sorting system.

Otherwise, I think the plan is very good.

I keep wondering, wouldn’t it be possible to install an oven higher up? Maybe in a 140 cm (55 inch) tall cabinet?
I don’t really have a solid idea for that.
Are the low walls actually standing in the room, or are they just shown as boundaries for the planner?

Hey Schmidti,

thanks for the tip about the corner countertops, I knew that too… I deliberately left the corners open for now.
Regarding the base cabinet with the waste sorting system… are there options for the 37cm (15 inches) cabinet as well? I currently have two installed there.
@Tux – My wife doesn’t want a tall cabinet for the oven. Topic closed. In theory, the kitchen layout is set. And I like it that way. Plenty of space for everything, enough storage… and the “workflows” with properly arranged cabinets seem well thought out to me.
