Hello everyone,
I have installed matte IKEA Metod cabinet fronts in my kitchen and am now facing the challenge of cleaning them properly without damaging the matte finish or surface. It is important to me to effectively remove stains, fingerprints, and light dirt, while avoiding harsh cleaning agents or abrasive cloths that could potentially cause scratches or damage the fronts. Does anyone have experience with which products and methods work best to keep matte IKEA Metod fronts clean and well-maintained over time? Are there any specific tips for cleaning matte laminate or foil fronts from the Metod system that I should definitely keep in mind? Thanks in advance for your advice!

I think the sensitivity of matte surfaces is often exaggerated. Of course, don’t use abrasive cleaners, but other than that? Home remedies like vinegar or lemon juice are often said to help. Why not? The film is more durable than many people think. Naturally, in moderation. If you’re worried about your surfaces, just use plain water – everyone can decide for themselves how delicate their surfaces are.

The film is actually more durable than many think. That is true to some extent; however, the surface of matte fronts is usually covered with a special film or laminate that can be damaged by acids or harsh chemicals. IKEA, in particular, advises using mild cleaners to avoid voiding the warranty.
Thanks for the tips so far! I am especially interested in how to deal with stubborn dirt, such as dried-on grease splatters or fingerprints. Is regular dish soap really enough for this? Or do you have special methods for removing these without damaging the matte finish? And how often should cleaning be done to maintain the matte surface?
A quick tip from the kitchen: wiping off fingerprints works great on matte surfaces with a cloth dipped in a mix of water and a small amount of mild dish soap. Don’t rub too hard! Be gentle and careful, so the surface stays nicely matte but still looks clean.
And don’t worry, these surfaces are more durable than we think – I’ve tested it myself. Just don’t go overboard and scrub aggressively.
